LOL It's not the job of the President to go around condemning pieces of art people find objectionable.

I love how these USA prudes look to the government to back up their morality.

Then they pat themselves on the back that they aren't rioting about the **** christ....LOL

Sadly, you're a victim of right wing propaganda. Try reading a newspaper once in a while.

Isn't that worth a question about the timing?
the biggest factor regarding timing is probably the surge of publicity given by an egyptian TV station.

I agree right up until the POTUS decides to do just that rather than come out and tell the truth.
Islamist Fanatics need no valid excuse to go on a rampage. They do it because that is what they do.
Look at Iraq. How many funerals have been attacked by one side or the other. Are we to believe that the funeral was the actual cause?
Obama condemned the movie because it is insensitive. Step up and finish what you started Mr. President. If its wrong to offend Muslims then it must also be wrong to offend the Christians.

I am 100% behind freedom of speech, and I don't think we should even be discussing censorship of this movie clip or of the offensive Christ artwork.

At the same time, I am 100% for a truthful account of the events, here.

The moviemakers posted their clip on-line during the summer. For what audience? To promote a movie which is doubtful even exists? Or to provoke a reaction. They didn't get a reaction. So, they had the clip translated into Arabic, and contacted a network of right-wing internet bloggers and posters, and asked them to promote the clip, the Arabic clip. Now, where are you going to promote a clip that is in Arabic? In Kansas, or in Syria? Their intended audience was obviously Arabic speakers who could be expected to be followers of Islam and who could be expected to be upset.

Given the information that's come out about Libya, I believe the assassination was planned, and that the assassins were happy beneficiaries of the outrage over the movie clip. Protests are excellent cover for extremists, and the moviemakers provoked protests.

According to this link, the Arabic version was uploaded in the week leading up to 9/11. In that case, the reaction was rather fast.

It sure helps an Egyptian TV station that the movie clip had just been translated into Arabic, a language more of their audience would understand than English.

Because the movie makers also contacted the right-wing network about promoting the clip the week before 9/11?

that definitely was a key factor.. but without the station publicizing it, it still might have remained off the radar.
