It's not "airpower" which was lost. Rather, "equipment." Our power remains undiminished. Military 101.

I thought we were talking about Afghanistan. What does Iraq and WMD's have to do with this? You DO recognize that Iraq and Afghanistan are two totally separate countries, don't you?

The ANA has their own ROE's. Afghanistan is an independent country and we don't dictate ROE's to them, at least on paper.

I mean maybe the ANA has to deal with the Taliban like we train them too and then let us (NATO ISAF) know that they had made contact with the Taliban and let us know know where and when and how many since that is what they should be doing.
Huh?

So why are we in Afghanistan?

Why does Obama continue to send young Americans to die over there?

We're in Afghanistan because al Qaeda mounted their attacks upon us on 9/11 from there. The Taliban had given them safe haven for training and preparations. Few dispute that and few fail to understand our justification for going in there in the first place. It's recent history 101.

Because we can't leave just yet.

That's the whole problem right there. THEY won't because we aren't going to be around in the future. We are going to beat feet out of there and leave them to the Taliban that can move on back in from all points of the globe the minute the last flight out is wheels up. You will not get any ANA talking about the Taliban in his neighbourhood because they will still be in his neighbourhood long after we're gone and forgotten.

It has always been thus for Afghanistan. They have learned that from so many generations of imperialistic asperations on the part of many countries while we, on the other hand, have failed miserably to observe any of the lessons taught by history.

Arriving at the 21st century with the naive belief ANY country can successfully occupy another without firstly, totally eradicating all opposition with a 'scorched earth' profile is not only misguided but damn near a criminal act to commit troops without the avowed purpose to obliterate your enemy.

If your intent is to win hearts and minds; then bomb the chit out of them with flat screens, washing machines and Fords instead. You want their allegiance for the foreseeable future buy each and every one of them a house and send their kids to university for free. It would be less costly in both the lives lost and resources we're currently WASTING!

We should have just bombed them and been done with it. Bomb the Taliban towns. And it shouldn't have taken us this long.

And in reality the al Queda mounted their attacks upon us on 9/11 from inside the USA.

The only reason they killed Americans on USA soil and brought down the WTC center is because we allowed them to come here, we gave them the visas and the flying lessons. Those planes didn't originate from inside Afghanistan, they took off from inside the USA.

That's how extremely stupid we are. Our extremely lax immigration policies were what got us 9/11.
