So the party who built a campaign around "rich vs. poor" class warfare is now taking aim at the poor. Classic.

It's only called class warfare when the poor fights back.

The most religious states are hardly the most free. They are the most likely to use secular law to dictate other peoples' morality.

Does no one here realize that the cost of living in these states is WAY lower than in many blue states and therefore median household income is not a truly a good indicator of "poorness" as a smaller wage in Mississippi buys much more than it would say in New York. If an employer in Alabama can pay someone $54,000 to live the same lifestyle as a person would have to make $150,000 to live in New York why would the employer pay more. It's very clear few people have any business sense in this thread

If these blue states are such great places, why do red states always find themselves consistently on the most happy list and blue states the most depressed? I'm sure y'all can make up some politically contrived answer saying they're too stupid to know better, but I wait with baited breath anyways.

Twist away, I never ever said it did.
America is 14th in education worldwide, 14th., and come in 17th. place in science, 25th place in math, 3 million dropouts in 2010.
Granted parental guidance helps, but which children want to attend overcrowded classrooms and go to dumpy schools without computers?
Teachers need to be paid a fair wage too, and the right wing needs to stop trying to bust teacher unions until they can come up with a better plan.

They're also more likely to be on food stamps, get EITCs, get other forms help, they also tend to have the highest welfare roles per capita. They don't tend to be the happiest except for the "Jesus Freaks" who think Jesus is coming tomorrow. Even those folks tend to have nervous break downs. So either me and my family who live in several different parts of the south picked the wrong states to live in or it's a major problem. I'm guessing it's the latter.

If you're trying to make a point about welfare, we already know this... Quote:

However, THE MAJORITY OF WELFARE RECIPIENTS ARE DEMOCRATS.

Super-Economy: Are Welfare Recipients mostly Republican?

Is it any wonder that the dems keep handing out "treats" for votes, thus bankrupting the nation?

Here's a point about welfare that should surprise people:

If you consider welfare recipients as a group, and you control for demographic factors (specifically, sex, age, race, income, marital status), welfare recipients are probably no more likely to be Democrat than non-welfare recipients of the same demographic characteristics.

More likely to be Democrat than Republican:

Women - check
Younger voters - check
Black and Hispanic voters -- check
Low-income voters - check
Unmarried voters - check

Looks like we've hit the quinfecta here!

Good grief. Get a clue, man...

The Chicago Public School District spends over $13,000 per student each year.
http://webprod.isbe.net/ereportcard/...50162990_e.pdf (page 3)

And CPS teachers "are among the highest-paid in the nation."
Chicago public school teachers extend strike

What do city and state taxpayers get for that?

- An average ACT score of 17.7, which is the 34th percentile for the ACT - WAY below average
(page 3 of the ISBE pdf)
- A dropout rate of nearly 40%

It's not the money, and it's not the teachers' pay. It's poor educational practices, and the outright refusal to allow students to attend the school of their choice via vouchers so that they can escape the poorly run and abysmally functioning schools in which they're trapped.
