With minimal government interference, this concept could definitely work for those of us who can live there. Given SF's internationally renowned public transit system and the extensive BART Network, this is a very unique lifestyle for those who'd be interested in doing so.
No, it's a studio apartment....nothing new if you live in a city.
If they charge $1200 a month, then, yes, it's going too far.
That is already the going rate for a studio in SF, and I've seen apts as small as 300sf going for that price... so yes, I think some people would go for it! If not for my large menagerie of animals, I'd even consider it myself. I mean, how much living space does one person need - especially when you live in a great city like SF, where you should be out enjoying the town?
I would actually be in favor of something like this. Here is the question: Will it be cheaper? I'm only one person. I don't need THAT much room. However, will it be cheap?
Yes, it would be cheaper. Would it be great in terms of value? "Value" is subjective. What I can say, though, is that I lived in Japan for several years, and I always lived in tiny apartments. Didn't bother me at all. I actually felt that there were a lot of benefits - like not spending a lot of time in my pad. I was a lot more active - went out and did a lot more and was far more social than I am now. I think the U.S. homes are definitely a bit more comfortable, but they're wasteful and encouraging a lot of the bad lifestyle habits that we seem to feel like we have a divine right to. Personally, I think it's past due to have these kinds of microhomes - and no, I'm not a socialist. If people want to live in a big-arsed home and waste, well, I guess that's their can, but they oughtta pay to waste.
The federal government is already stealing the home from people via the fannie and freddi loan debacle crisis and now the servicers are foreclosing taking property all over the country in the name of uncle sam. Now you want to get crammed into a coffin and claim that those who live in big arsed homes are a waste because they don't go out and be social? Like I said why don't you go rent a storage locker. It's much cheaper if that is your attitude. Why don't all you green weenies go move into the local storage lockers and really show us how smart you really are. You know all us idiots who believe our property is everything and the founders agreed. Yes you are a socialist.
Actually, I'm a homeowner. I bet I pay more taxes than you do. I bet I spend more than you do. I bet I contribute more to the American economy than you do. I'm just more American than you are. Get out of my country.
I saw a few nice 200 sq. feeters that were made to be more practical and feel/look larger that I think I could live in but personally I don't think I could get much smaller than that.
You have been caught making up stories and now you want me to go to bed. Maybe if you stop making up crap you wouldn't need folks who call you on it go away? Just tell the truth is that so hard? Or are you so taken in by your orators lies you are just joining in since they do it too it must be fine and dandy?
I had a 300 sq ft. studio when I was in my late 20's in Atlanta. It was perfect. All I needed was a bed a small tv., small refrigerator, bathroom with shower. What else do you need. I never spent much time there so why all the extra space? Now, with two children I have a large house, but we really don't need the space that we have. We could easily get by with 1000 sq. ft if it was in a great location in the city. Location to amenities and work is far more important than sq footage. 5000 sq. feet in the sticks would suck.
