Systemic pesticides are also slowly being implicated worldwide in sudden bee die-offs (aka, Colony collapse disorder).
Yes, I read that we had a 30% die off last winter. This is very scary. Other countries are banning the pesticides suspected of causing this, the U.S. is still in denial.

Not entirely coincidentally, most of Europe has a much lower obesity rate than the U.S. does.
I think it's possibly a lack of nutrition from these altered foods, that is causing some people to keep stuffing themselves wtihout feeling satisfied.

You know the idea that life can be patented seems absurd to me. You are tinkering. You didn't actually create an original work.

Altered proteins do have systemic consequences. Amazing they don't require disclosure and labelling.

This really sounds like the biggest cop out I have ever heard.
There is a pretty clear def of GM, that is how they make them big bucks. While traditional hybrids can have negative consequences they are far less likely to result in the same kind of altered proteins, at a minimum. Frankly, plenty of us would love to know which are GM so we wouldn't buy them. If GM is so great they should be bragging about it and labelling it to high heaven. If people want to eat it let them, but give others the choice to not eat it. Even organics can't be trusted any more.

Very true. The EU has already banned neonicotinoids on a two year trial basis but the big problem is they're relatively persistent compounds (much like PCBs or DDT) which means even if we stopped using them today they'd persist in the environment for decades to come still killing stuff. As usual though the EPA has been captured by the very companies it is supposed to be regulating so sound science is ignored so that companies can continue making profits from substances which are manifestly harmful to human and environmental health.

We are talking about what Monsanto is engineering, so that crops don't die after being sprayed with insecticides, because the plant is an insecticide unto itself. You are trying to deflect from the topic at hand.

oh please

fact is even rooting and cross polinating geneteicly manipulates the originator

fact is you need a boogyman, so you go after a corporation, because they are so 'evil'

why the discriminsation against monsanto and not the other chemical companies

the chemical in roundup (Glyphosate )is the very same chemical used in the herbisides made by Baier, ortho, etc

why instead of asking the government to ban a potentially dangerous chemical (through the epa, usda, fda ..whatever) are you going after ONE companie...is this a political agenda????

again..you SEEM to be wearing blinders..

I learned about cross polination 50 years ago in school....farmers have been doinf cross polination and grafing for CENTURIES

and its baout what the PEOPLE WANT

grow a tomato plant in your yard..the product is NOT all the same size or color....but people want big round, red tomaoes that all look pristine.....you ONLY get that from manipulating the make up of the plant/fuit/vegi.....go to an old 'red delicious' apple tree and look at the fruit...they are not all the same size of color.....but what WE WANT in the store is all the same..................cant blame a specific company for what the PEOPLE WANT

yes there are 'roundup ready' seeds...meaning they(the plant) will NOT die if the herbicide gets on them...like a 'non ready' seed would.....what is the big deal....and please dont give me the 'cancer and other' line....more people died of cancer well before monsanto even was thought of
