What should be done about it? Cradle to grave guaranteed minimum income for everybody? Scrap the whole system? Force people to work for it like we're doing now? 2 year time limit, 1 year limit, no time limit? Restrictions, prerequisite activities? How would you treat families and individuals differently?
My opinion to start it off is that we should scrap it all and let them ungrateful varmits fend fer theselfs, but that's just me.
What an utterly absurd idea. Welfare people forced to fend for themselves would resort to crime to get the basic things they need to survive. Shoplifting in grocery stores and other places would go up. Restaurants would have to put up with a lot more people running out without paying. More prisons would have to be built.
After coming home from work more law abiding working people would come home to find their kitchens raided, if not entire home. There would be a lot more begging and harassing in the streets. Babies and little children would be abandoned.
A civilized society believes in helping the poor get along. After all, Jesus believed the poor should be helped, but it seems, a lot of conservative Christians believe Jesus was off his rocker to think such a thing.
The poor will always be with us and an orderly society demands they be helped to some extent. Probably too many people try to make welfare a way of life. Supposedly, regulations don't make doing that easy.
