I absolutely detest Allen West, and I have a high tolerance for low blows when it comes to politics. That said, this is really, really low. You shouldn't use a private letter a man writes to his wife against him. Yes, I find his comments tacky and embarrassing, but they aren't meant for public consumption. They are for his wife and his wife alone.
