My dad was working on a federal education council, so even though we were good liberals we still honored the office of the presidency when we were invited to meet him along with other Federal employees's families.

I was hit by an errant golf ball hit by Gerald Ford at the Bob Hope Desert Classic golf tournament years later but I don't think that counts.
Was your dad a Federal employee? If he was and he protested the war... that took a lot of guts. He's got an FBI file 2" thick.

The golf ball absolutely counts.

Well there was 500,000 other folks there at that protest and I surmise the FBI had about the same level of competence or the lack thereof as they do today

Since my dad was standing next to me when I was hit by the golf ball maybe I was actually an accidental victim of a payback on my Dad by golfball haha

I live in a city, Pueblo Colorado, where they seem to come a lot during presidential elections.

George W Bush spoke at a conference I attended for work. Not a fan of his (the screen name is a joke) but I enjoyed it and he came off much better than I expected. He addressed Iraq, 9/11, waterboarding, etc... a bunch of difficult stuff I never expected him to talk about and while I didn't agree with everything he did, he took ownership for it and gave his reasons why he did what he did. He also displayed a very good sense of humor. Since I expected a bumbling fool akin to the way Will Ferrel portrayed him on SNL I was quite taken aback.

Made me realise that anyone who manages to make it to that office will have enough charisma to take over a room with ease.

I met Jimmy Carter when he came to speak at my college in 2006/2007. I was part of the group rallying to bring him to campus, so he met with a few of us (and in my case, I was invited because I am from Georgia). Lovely man. I also briefly met Bill Clinton when he came to campus the following year.

During the primary season for the last election, I spent a lot of time in NH working on campaigns. I was a big Bill Richardson supporter, so I got to meet him on several occasions. When it became clear that he wasn't going anywhere, I became my college Dems rep for Joe Biden and met him on several occasions. Mike Gravel at one point was due to come speak on campus, but his flight was delayed so he would miss his 6pm talk on campus. Instead, he came straight from the airport at midnight to meet with the handful of us who stuck around and stayed until 2am taking photos and answering questions. He was really a class act.

There are some pretty neat stories on this thread. Thanks for sharing.

I've never met a President while in office or out of office. I'd love to though, whether I voted for them or not. The Obama's were here in Charlotte a month ago, but there was no chance. Michelle's motorcade did roar past me though. Pretty neat, even though I'm a Republican.

Perhaps one day....

No, but when Carter was in the WH, the SS not-so-kindly asked me and my boyfriend to leave when we were drunkenly stumbling around on the WH lawn in the middle of the night looking for Amy's tree house .
