Jesus was supposedly born in April, so why is christmas in December?

The Queen's real birthday is also in April, but if you have an issue with the official birthday being celebrated in June, I know some guardsmen whom you might have some trouble convincing; it's no fun stomping around Horse Guards Parade in a soggy bearskin. Likewise, since peasants actually have work to do in April, better to have the official birthday around the winter solstice, when no one's doing anything except drinking old ale and warming their arses by the yule log.
The United States of America is culturally and historically a Christian nation with no official state religion and Seperation of Church and State. However, we are not 100% secular or completely seperated from the church.
In God We Trust is our official motto, Christmas Day is a Federal/State holiday, Good Friday is observed by several states, God and the 10 commandment is placed in many federal buildings, 98% of the presidents have been Christians, some founding fathers were Christians, we rest on Sundays, we follow the Gregorian/Christian calendar, blue laws in some parts of the nation, etc.
But, if the U.S. actually had Christianity as an official state religion (With no specific denomination) just like many countries across the World - What would the U.S. have been looked like?
* Cross/Jesus images or statues would have been placed in all Federal/State buildings.
* Nativity scenes & Christmas Decorations all over (Although you may still see them in some buildings)
* Probably more Christian holidays would have been observed by the Federal and State (instead or on top of many secular, such as All Saint's Day, Ephiphany, etc.)
* Maybe only Churches would have been tax exempt (Synagogues, Mosques, Hindu/Buddhist/Sikh temples would have most likely paid tax)
* Freedom of Religion still
* Maybe hate speech crime if you attack the Christian faith
* No same-sex marriage
* Maybe everything would be closed on Sundays by law everywhere.
^^ Big Deal. Why are many nonbelievers so scared or worried about Christianity?
People in England, Costa Rica, Norway and other countries seems to be fine!
It's not like Christianity has many rules of how to live life, etc. like Judaism and Islam where they have dietary law, clothing law, Sabbath, etc. restricting their lifestyle.
It would look like a Nation that isn't founded on religious freedom.

I don't care when the queen celebrates her birthday. Nothing at all to do with arguments about xmas.

Actually, Ameriscot is 100% correct. Christianity gave the old midwinter celebrations - which they couldn't stamp out, try as they might - a Christian whitewash. Everybody in the Northern hemisphere seems to have had a celebration for the return of the light.

Yep, the date already used to celebrate the return of longer days, long before Christ was born. The Roman Bromalia just happened to culminate on Dec 25th. (The Julian Calendar got things a little messed up, so now Winter Solstice is no longer on the exact date - bummer.)
As I said - my Viking forefathers celebrated Yule long before they stopped selling monks and started listening to them. We still call Christmas "Jul", and some of the traditions are directly hooked into the pagan ways of our forefathers - there's no Christian counterpart to the utterly pagan traditions concerning the Yule Goat, for instance. Or the "nisser" - sort of homestead spirits, now depicted as cutesy little rapscallions, but you'll still see people putting out the food offering each year.
The Christian religion simply took over a well-established rite and gave it a new name. Happens all the time when a religion gains popularity, I don't see why it's such big deal?
