And that attitude Greg, is why you will always be poor.

(1) One way to address this without taxing capital gains is to simply not tax income below what a person needs to be able to invest. (e.g. burger flippers aren't collecting capital gains)

(2) Estates are entirely the wrong thing to tax. Instead, I would tax inheritances without interest when cash is realized. (i.e. no tax due when you inherit the family farm or business, but down the road without interest when/if you sell and realize cash). Hard to see why I should pay tax on $10K of hard earned wages while someone can inherit $1M without tax. (And no, that $1M was not necessarily taxed previously, e.g. a capital gain on an asset previously inherited might have never been taxed.)

So taxes are now rape? What kind of rock do you have to turn over to find a mind that thinks like that? Are taxes "legitimate" rape?

By 2003, Mr. Bush grasped this lesson. In that year, he cut the dividend and capital gains rates to 15 percent each, and the economy responded. In two years, stocks rose 20 percent. In three years, $15 trillion of new wealth was created. The U.S. economy added 8 million new jobs from mid-2003 to early 2007, and the median household increased its wealth by $20,000 in real terms.

But the real jolt for tax-cutting opponents was that the 03 Bush tax cuts also generated a massive increase in federal tax receipts. From 2004 to 2007, federal tax revenues increased by $785 billion, the largest four-year increase in American history. According to the Treasury Department, individual and corporate income tax receipts were up 40 percent in the three years following the Bush tax cuts. And (bonus) the rich paid an even higher percentage of the total tax burden than they had at any time in at least the previous 40 years. This was news to theNew York Times, whose astonished editorial board could only describe the gains as a “surprise windfall.”

The top one percenters have grabbed all the money. Asking them to give some of it back is hardly unfair.

Is there anything more ridiculous than listening to really rich people whine about taxes?

You don't grasp analogies any better than hard FACTS

Those are the FACTS.

The wealthy actually paid MORE of the percentage of the total taxes collected...the most in 40 years after the Bush Tax Cuts.

And.....median household incomes ROSE.

So EXACTLY what's a "fair" amount for them to pay? Give us a FIGURE.

As the OP says, they currently pay MORE in the USA than any other industrialized nation.

And since it's been PROVEN that when you give them tax BREAKS the government actually take in MORE revenue, you OUGHT to be happy that there's more not LESS to spend on entitlements or pay down the deficit.

Here's some of the MYTHS debunked:

There's literally no point at all in arguing with someone who refuses to admit to basic facts. Or revoltingly can't tell the difference between being raped and being asked to pay for the cost of living in a civil society.

Incomes have not risen in that time frame. They have remained stagnant for all but the very top. Those sort of lies may play well to the deluded Republican base but in the real world they don't work.

We've been giving the top percenters tax breaks for three decades. All they've done with the money is horde it and complain that the peons aren't grateful enough for the crumbs they deign to throw at us.

Yes, there's little point in debating with someone who doesn't grasp a simple analogy like you.

When you can't face the fact that you're wrong and have been PROVEN wrong, you're hopeless.

And doing so INCREASED government revenues.

Those poor folks should be shaking the hand of every wealthy person in America because without them, there would be NO SAFETY NETS.

That's because liberals were wrong - the Bush Tax Cuts were not tax cuts for the rich, they were tax cuts for PARENTS.
