Every time I take this test it puts me in the bottom left quadrant, i.e. the left/libertarian one, in the same spot where Gandhi would be.

Score is:
Economic left/right: -3.50
Social libertarian/authoritarian: -2.21

While I don't think the scoring is as harsh as you say, I do agree with that idea to the extent that religion is inherently authoritarian. Sure there are a handful of people that seek out religion on their own, but for the most part it still exists due to its authoritarian nature. As a test of the first statement, I changed my answers on the last 2 pages (religion and sex) to how a staunchly religious person might answer, and while it changed my scores, I didn't see an automatic jump to the far authoritarian side.
Economic Left/Right: -2.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.08

I don't take it as a big revelation as some immediately assumed, just helpful in clarifying how the pieces fit together on all these different ideologies. Obviously, like anything, take it with a grain of salt. It's a discussion starter, nothing more. Thought some might enjoy it more than the usual junk on this board. I'd venture that most folks out there do not fully understand the political compass, as much as they will pretend they do, and is a large part of the reason why our political system is so horrible.

in the end this test, along with all the others of a similar nature, are rubbish. and again the problem is that the answers are canned, rather than allowing the people to come up with their own answers. granted it has to be done this way to make the "test" the same for everyone, but it is completely inaccurate for everyone, and because the answers are canned, it does truly indicate what a person really thinks, or where a person really is on this scale.

I'd say that was fairly accurate.

No test can say what I believe...

I'm basically a individual freedoms libertarian, yet for electoral freedom (allowing the mob to pick their leaders) I'm a fascist. I believe in protecting the environment even if it costs jobs, so I could be called a Green. But I also believe in lowering taxes on most businesses, so that could make be a conservative. I believe in giving financial incentives to crack heads and other undesirables if they agree to get sterilized so I could be a fascist, but I also believe in gay marriage, so I could be a liberal. I believe in the right to bear arms, so I could be a conservative, but I also believe in ending foreign wars, so I could be a liberal.

I consider myself a green/fascist/libertarian socialist.

It's the one of the most useless "tests" on the internet.

Agreeing...
