Before I leave , let me say that I have all kinds of trouble answering many of those questions since they just want me to lean a bit further left than I can handle.

My compass showed me three squares to the right and two of them up so I guess I am a bit authoritarian but I have to wonder what is going on when I am asked to sign some kind of thing in support of Hussein Obama. I couldn't do that one and had some problem with other questions like those that had to do with sex and collectivism.

I am sure that not being able to answer so many of those things from being afraid I might show up even closer to left leaning affected my answers. I have never seen this same questionnaire but have seen plenty of others.

Almost dead center.

Indeed!

Results this time (the economic score can be anything between -0.62 and 0.75)

Economic Left/Right: 0.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.18

On the Political Matrix that does have a neutral option, it's even closer to the centre than the political compass is.

The political Spectrum Quiz is almost as long as the political compass and also has neutral options

Clearly I'm not as liberal as I thought I was.

In modern American politics, that means you're a flaming socialist Marxist *******.

Like practically everyone here I'm in the bottom left quadrant.

But seriously, this is a terrible test.

"What's good for the most successful corporations is always, ultimately, good for all of us."

If you don't agree with this, you're anti-free market principles? Whaaaattttt? Disagreeing with this statement has absolutely nothing to do with how lassie-fair someone is. You could make Milton Friedman look like a socialist and still strongly disagree with this statement.

"Astrology accurately explains many things."

What the hell does this have to do with anything?

"The businessperson and the manufacturer are more important than the writer and the artist."

What if you think they're equally important?

"It is a waste of time to try to rehabilitate some criminals."

Good luck finding someone who doesn't agree with that.

"Abstract art that doesn't represent anything shouldn't be considered art at all."

What if you think it's art, just bad, masturbatory art?

I don't know how, but I am left. -0.88 economic left/right and 1.49 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian. I am just left and above the middle. Maybe I'm not a Republican. I was a registered Democrat until Clinton's last years.

The test has been around for a long time, it is true, but it is a good way to get people to try to get out of the right/left way of thinking. It is hard though, people just love to have two categories.
