I heard someone on TV mention this recently. That the black family unit began to break down
after World War II.
I think it is probably because of the liberal policies that were put into place at the time,
like the New Deal of Franklin D Roosevelt.
I also think that the Civil Rights policies took a wrong turn after their initial implementation by the Conservative Christian movement in the Republican party. After their implementation, they were then adopted and corrupted by the liberal Democrats from that point until the present day.
Giving blacks free handouts for generations, lowering societies standards instead of demanding more, accepting every excuse that the black community hands out on why they can't get ahead in "the cracker world".....
Giving them more and more taxpayer money for how many children they have....

How about the breakdown of just "Family" since WWII?
No doubt that a sad number of black families have broken down, but it's not as though the "Family" of other races are faring much better.
We can talk about "family" if you want. Liberals are very outspoken in their anti-family postions: Gay marriage. Anti-Christianity. Teen sex. Pre-marital sex. Etc.
All society's problems have a common source: Leftism.

Not only that. Its an identical process in most western countries. In France for example, more than 1/2 of the children were born out of wedlock in 2011. In America, this process is more advanced in black communities, but others are following. In Manhattan, more that 50% of households are either single or single parent units.

The causes of the disintegration of the black family unit can also be attributed to the decline of the white family unit. Rewarding bad behavior via bleeding heart lefty policies. It took awhile to hit the white community, but the effects are becoming more pronounced with each passing decade. More frightening is the disintegration of the moral fabric of this country. Everyone always points to racism as a way to suggest we were no better off a couple generations ago. While we have progressed in some ways, we have regressed in many others. Decency is most certainly on the decline.
So... If all these single parents are barely holding on, and require state/federal subsidies to survive, what's going to happen when they outnumber the two income family units?
It is the result of the embracing the mantra "I don't need no man."
It is a result of Uncle Sam taking over the role of the black father.
It is a result of the American culture acting like some jobs are beneath them and it is better to not work at all than work those jobs. And it doesn't matter if you don't work because Uncle Sam will pay the bills if you don't.
It is a result of demanding respect instead of trying to earn it.
It is a result of the American culture conveying that black Americans can not succeed unless there is an uneven playing field, thus creating an environment of lower expectations.
It is a result of a series of governmental policies that encourages dependency.
It is the result of the media glamorizing single parenthood.
We can not blame this on slavery..... pre-WW2 was nearer to slavery than today is. The shame is that before the Civil War slavery robbed us of the right to be able to create our own family units. The slave master was Daddy to all his slaves and purposefully sought to demasculinize black men. Those people who fought a war so we could be our own masters would be appalled that too many of our men have now voluntarily thrown it away. Just now our slave master is a big faceless entity called government.

I know plenty of Christians who are divorced.
I also know plenty of couples who "shacked up" before marriage and have been married for a decade or longer.
Your "point" about gay marriage is just plain idiotic. Is your marriage is so shaky that two men getting married invalidates it?
Racism and LBJ's Great Society program are two good reasons. Black on black crime and lack of fathers in the household are also factors.
