My 1911 is quicker than 911.

Also, I believe the SC ruled that police were not there to protect you.....

The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm, even a woman who had obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation.

He's gone insane.

911 is great for the follow up report in a situation like that.
Law Enforcement personel will tell you that also.

Maybe Steven's thinking of heavy sleepers who wouldn't hear the intruder before the intruder got the gun. Maybe he's thinking of people who are too skittish to pull the trigger. Neither apply to me. Someone breaks into my house, they'd better be prepared to die. Police in my area might take until the next day to arrive.

Well since 65 % of female homicide victims are killed not by an "intruder" but by an "intimate" meaning a husband or boyfriend, it depends if she is going to be able to get to a phone or gun faster before she is beaten to a pulp.

The government has one up on us now. We may not be subjects yet, as we still have out rights to our personal guns, but we have been made servants, by preventing us to own what they own.
The right to keep & bear arms should have no restrictions as it is written that way.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

We should apply John Paul Stevens' "logic" to the police themselves. Let's take the individual patrol officers gun away from him. They all have a radio. If they get into a sticky wicket they can call back to the station, where armed officers sit waiting, ready to roll, kind of like the fire dept.

Let's put that policy into place, then sit back & watch as the biggest police walkout in the history of Western Civilization ensues.

Tough to believe that this loon was a SC justice. These are timely comments, though, that underscore the need to deny Pres. Obama to appoint any more justices.

Unbelievable... how far out of touch with reality are these people ? In Detroit your lucky to get a cop out to you in a few hours. WTF ?!?
We need to flush the big toilet bowl that is Capitol Hill and get all these dolts out of there.

I just love the hubris of these "I'd nail him between the eyes with my cannon before he knew what hit him" responses.

The reality is that most of these gun toters can't hit the broad side of a barn, especially when they are shaking like a leaf. In the recent theater, and other crowd shootings, statistics would suggest that there had to be more than a few 'carriers' in the room......but NONE of them got off a shot. Too busy hiding behind the seats while their undies turned colors?

It all sounds good, but generally the gun never gets used in the heat of the moment, and when it does and the perp fires back, things turn from ugly to really, really bad.

Stay cool. Dial 911, Wish you had a gun, but stay alive with a really horrible experience. Those are the best odds you have.
