I think that the OP read the quick headline on CNN before they added the detail. At first all it had was the bombing attempt. When I first read it, it sounded to me like they caught him at the last second with an actual bomb, or the bomb malfunctioned.

Later on they added that the attack was thwarted because the FBI was involved and sold him a fake bomb.

Hate to break it to you OP, but this just means that an attack on US soil was thwarted by the Obama admin.

FBI is a entity of these United States. Like all security for foreign diplomats, its reliant on the local security forces and police.

Its why they didn't call the Washington DC police in Cairo, but called the local police there.

We should have never had an embassy in Libya, because it was to unstable after the recent revolt.
