This is a question that is aimed mainly at progressives, socialists, and libertarians but I would be interesting to hear any feedback. Why are so many of leftists and Libertarians drawn to this network? I find this so ironic because one thing that both groups seem to agree on is that our current government is corrupt and is teeming with so much wall st /corperate money that the democracy is being eroded (a reasonable concern)…yet at the same time the Russian government is 100 times more corrupt then ours. Their sorry excuse for a government is basically no more than a mafia state.

What passes for “journalism” on RT usually amounts to little more than a bunch of anti-American tirades. None of you would trust a news network that was funded 100% by the US government, nor should you, but then you turn right around and watch a network that is funded entirely by another country which has far more problems than ours. They have absolutely no credibility on the issue of government corruption; nor should they be spewing fiction about “police states” or “unfair elections” when they actually do have a police state and their elections are a complete sham.

BTW I would like to add that I am a progressive myself and I realize that sometimes our government needs to be criticized. With that being said I would like to remind RT watchers to consider who is doing the criticizing. Can’t you see that there is an agenda here?

IMHO, most folks tend to "filter" whatever they watch anyway, thru their particular values and worldview. It's just that with some media outlets you have to 'modulate' that filter a bit more than with others. So I find the RT "slant" no better (or worse) than say, watching FOX News, or even 'Democracy Now', and actually, it's usually a lot more interesting. And if you tend to be an "information junkie", you learn to be discerning about these kinds of thangs, so it's all 'useful' in one way or another, kinda like a "buffet".

That you say Russia is 100 time more corrupt than we are is proof already that you are brain washed.

You seem unaware that politicians tend to lie about themselves while being a bit more truthful about their opponents. You also seem unaware that a democracy in your rival is beneficial while not so much for an oligarch in the home country. Democracies are less prone to go to war. It takes propaganda like incubator babies and stuff.

The same people that fund the networks fund our government so I have no idea what you mean.

I use 18th and 19th century political philosophy to vet the information.

When it was free preview on Dish, I watched the music shows. One I wish I could still watch, pure music from the roots, no electronic tweeking, which is as close as you'll get to the British/Scots traditional ballads which came with them here. I used to enjoy county when it was country. Give me Doc Watson and his pure music and basic blugrass, even the 50's, 60's Grand ole Oprey. The stuff now is just a hair's breath different than the other 'contemperary' mix that is sometimes more country and sometimes more rock and has lost any origional flavor of both.

I think I detect the very thing I was going to suggest to the OP as the only reason anyone would watch RT. That would be a hint of communist thinking by most who watch that thing. I do it now and then but not for any very long period because they are pushing Russian thinking over American thinking.

RT is still "manipul-media" and tries to appeal to a certain audience... mainly the same people as the Alex Jones crowd.

It's interesting to read the same story as it's filtered through all the different world news outlets though, and see the clear slant each one gives to their own agendas.

The internet is a truly special invention.

I enjoy hearing ALL the news and not just what the MSM wants us to hear. I also enjoy getting the truth and not being lied to by the MSM...RT gives me that.

Its wise to realize that but they will give you bits of truth you can use like Al Jazeera can be useful. Then one must apply plausibility. For example when a koala bear and a wolf are in the same room and its reported that the koala bear ate the roast beef from one of the news sources who is friends with the wolf...

How could this be? Does it bother anyone he is from one of the most corrupt states in the Union? Governors don't run for president in Illinois because they are usually in jail.
