Both parties have their coalitions...the GOP is no different but do you guys really feel the democrats care about poor people?
Do think republicans care about the poor?
IMO, NO.

They do not despise anyone. They think Charles Manson is "misunderstood."

And I'd say Democrats do well in big cities because educated liberals dominate big cities, whereas (with the exception of executive types), most Republican voters live in more rural areas and Southern/Midwest states. Blacks are a small percentage of the American population. I don't think they are the primary reason for why major cities go Democratic.
Most major cities are majority minority. You say that most Republican voters live in more rural areas - most probably live in suburban areas actually and most of the people who work in the major cities live in suburban areas (a greater percentage of rural voters than suburban ones vote Republican, yes, but remember the country is highly urbanized now).

The reality is both sides have unintelligent and intelligent supporters. Those with education beyond a Bachelor's degree actually do lean Democrat when compared to the electorate as a whole. However, they do not lean as Democratic as high school dropouts (the most Democratic-leaning group) do and those with Bachelor's degrees but no postgraduate education are the most Republican-leaning group.

Also, as far as income, those with higher incomes lean more Republican and, even among whites, the poor are more likely to vote Democrat.

its funny how your primary source of information is what you want to believe in your own mind. cities have liberal elite which makes up a relatively small % of the populations. they have a much larger base of illiterate masses that make up the bulk of the population. the more intelligent people move out to the suburbs. just check the city data demographics for pretty much any large city. nyc is such a rich city with tiny apartments selling for millions, but whats the actual average family income? not nearly enough to afford those million dollar apartments that the small rich elite live in.

Well, Minnesota did give us Michelle Bachmann

If you replaced the Midwest with the Southwest, then I would be inclined to agree with you. Some of the dumbest places in the country are New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and even California. California, while harboring some of the nation's best universities, minds, and is very innovative, is also filled with morons.
Well, you're also ignoring places like Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, etc. So maybe we should say the Midwest, Southwest, and South are filled with morons?

California is big, so it's understandable they'd have a big split of educated people and idiots. Despite being a liberal state, it has a massive conservative population.

Either way you look at it, from a very broad perspective, the Northeast, Mid Atlantic, Pacific Northwest, and Urban California contain the majority of the educated, intelligent Americans.

Despise may be a tad strong. Conservatives, despite having a lower median income than liberals, donate by far more. I agree that a lot of legislation proposed by democrats explicitly targets the poor but I think you would be pressed to find evidence to support your assertion.

Regardless...the GOP isn't the question posed. I'm not looking for comparison...as I'm sure I have an idea as to how you feel. I am interested in whether you believe they sincerely care, or play this side because it's politically advantageous.

Yes, I think Democrats do care, but their policies sometimes hurt more than they help. Take California, for instance. A lot of legislation is passed by Democrats to please left-wing environmentalists, but look at what that legislation has done to the price of housing and the price of gas in California. If Democrats really care about the poor, why have they made life so difficult for the poor and lower-income people of the state?

Regarding that old meme about Republicans donating more to charities: Yes, they do, but that doesn't mean they care more about the poor. It just means they believe private charity helps the poor more than government. Democrats believe more strongly in social programs and public spending to help the poor.

I think no politician cares for any people except for that vote. One moment they are bashing the poor, the next they are supporting the poor. It's silly people vote these types into office.
