Watched it last night and was fascinated, but of course, they didn't do that, someone else did that!
I believe this is a series running on the history channel, but I think it can be viewed on line.

And monopolies and watering down stock was made illegal for a reason.
Even Rockefellers own great great grandson said he didn't agree with how old jd got there.

I agree and competition was fierce, I'm sure there were a ton of shady deals made with very little regulation in place, but even so, it still goes on today to some extent. If you get a chance, watch it.

I don't know any liberals who think that socialists built this country. I guess this is what has become of conservatives today...this whole thought process that paints liberals as socialists...to the point of single-mindedness.

I saw it, too. Fascinating, but at the same time, they existed in an era without TRUE competition. Monopolies we allowed, stocks could be fraudulently watered down in value, etc.

President Kennedy's father made his fortune on illegal bootlegging. Nothing much was made of it by the media.

My favorites builders were the likes of J.P, Morgan and Henry Frick. Morgan who during the Civil War bought 5,000 defective rifles from the federal government for $3.50 and then sold them back for $22 each, and Frick for the wonderful damn that he helped to build above Johnstown.

Somehow I can't picture this country becoming the United States of America if political correctness and equal opportunity were in place.....

No they were not! It's called "rugged individualism", and Obama despises it.
