Yes, lets change all the signs and the system of measurement that everyone in this country is used to and see all the carnage that happens. Not to mention the massive amount of money it would take. How many billions of dollars just to change all the traffic signs? There is no point, except for people who just can't deal with the fact that the US is different from the rest of the world. So speed limits are MPH instead of KPH, big deal. Ounces, pounds, etc, big deal. Unless you are in a scientific field, no one NEEDS the metric system in this country. And guess what, newsflash, they already use the metric system.
If people in America want to use metric, use metric. No one is stopping you. Every digital scale for the kitchen can easily be switched between metric and standard, if you want to go 90 instead of 55, go ahead. We are BROKE.
"Dullard" (a slow stupid person)? WTF!!! Try driving on the wrong side of the road or highway in America! The majority of people are right handed and it would be foreign to shift with their left hand! Now that's foreign and for the dullard type of individuals!
Get rid of the metric measurement system and continue to drive on the right side of the road like most common sense people do!
It's the American way and proud of it! Remember Paul Revere? If it wasn't for him, everyone in America would be driving on the wrong side of the road and be using the metric system!
Just saying, the US has been trying to convert to metric since 1866, not the 1970s.
I think there should be a slow transition to the system. Won't be able to change the understanding of older peoples but if you can change the future generations way of thinking, that'd be useful.

You make a good point. Any and all areas of scientific and medical research and work that we do is already done in metric, and these two areas have the most international interaction in the US. I don't see any immediate need for the common person to use metric in daily life when all important fields of commerce already use metric in the first place.

We've been in slow transition to metric since 1866
Keep it like it is, go metric and conversion will be a very expensive nightmare for years for most Americans. Because of my interest in shooting know what a millimeter is. Interest in wildlife means I know how much a kilo is. A kilometer is easy, but after that things get murky and I get tangled up.
We've been in slow transition to metric since 1866
Well that doesn't mean stop.
Edit: There haven't been enough measures to shift this slow transition perhaps because the legislation doesn't make any money unless it's a foreign owned company :P
back in the 80s, interstate 19 signage was all changed to pure metric. mile markers became kilometer markers, instead of the next exit being 1 mile it was 1.6 kilometers, etc. and everything was fine.......except for one thing, the speed limit. they changed all the signs to 90kph, but nearly everyone thought it was 90mph and drove accordingly. the signs were changed back regarding the speed limit signs mere months later due to the complaints filed regarding the number of speeding tickets given, and the number of high speed accidents the highway patrol had to deal with.
as i have said, i personally dont care if we go full metric, full sae, or a mixture of both. but i find it interesting that our system of measurement is similar to the british money system, and our money system is already metric.
I know - it's way too logical. Something we increasingly don't do well in this country.
Base 10 isn't for everyone.
