It seems odd to push to make MJ legal when that is the number one drug abused by young people and we have pushed for nearly 50 years to get people to quit smoking.
MJ is one of the safest drugs out there. It's much safer than nearly every prescription drug on the market. It's also much safer than alcohol and cigarettes, both which are legal.
It's not odd to push for legalization of MJ. It makes a lot of sense.
I'd prefer people not feel the need to take any drugs in the first place. I never understood why people take drugs, do they really think falling for illusions will solve their problems? Eat chocolate or bananas, they give you happy feelings, too, and that without ruining your body and mind
Yeah, call me a nerd, I don't care
Actually, there is a lot of drug abuse and smuggling in Portugal, the former in the cities, the latter along the coasts. There are also more and more designer drugs. Why anyone would look at Portugal's situation as a good example is beyond me. Basically Portugal has given up on the fight against drugs, mostly because it lacks the means to keep fighting.
So the U. S. needs to do a better job of trying to imprison its way out of the drug problem?

Quite to the contrary, I think only people who commit or hire someone to commit violent crimes should go to jail. For everyone else there should be punishment outside prisons.
But I am more the prevention kind of person anyway...
