That country actually has people that think. This country is perpetually stupid when it comes to social issues.

The average European>The average American

The American solution to everything is build more prisons. Makes us feel better.

So go to Portugal and addict yourself and family and use endlessly. Go for it!

Meanwhile we here in the USA should call crap what it is and work to especially keep kids from it.

I tend to agree. There are a few ways in which I prefer the U.S., but not very many. Ending the involvement of the criminal justice system in the problem of drug addiction is one of those common sense ideas that don't get any traction.

Legalization keeps stuff away from kids, not the other way around.

Think about it (I know it's hard for a Prohibitionist to think, after all, they're totally ignorant to history), who is more likely to sell drugs to a 14 year old: A small business owner who can be shut down if caught selling to minors or a person willing to break the law in order to make money?

Even if you don't consider the billions we spend on policing drugs, the billions spent incarcerating drug users and dealers, the millions of police manhours wasted processing non-violent drug users, the billions of dollars wasted in our court systems, the criminal gangs which are handed revenue on a silver platter thanks to prohibition, and the billions lost in potential tax revenue, the simple fact that kids have more access to illegal drugs than legal ones should be enough of a reason to legalize.

There is no rational or intelligent reason to keep drugs illegal. None. Anyone who thinks otherwise is irrational or unintelligent...or both.

Yea, and fail miserably while doing it. Just keep locking people up and building more prisons. In 50 years, we can propose buying Greenland from Denmark so that we'll have a big enough prison to house everyone.

Yea!!! That's the ticket. Lock 'em up!!

Gosh, Americans are so brilliant.

This is one of the 2 big reasons to legalize...... the failure of alcohol prohibition

Alcohol abuse only got worse as prohibition progressed as did the criminal element. We have seen the same thing happen with drugs since the 60's

The other reason would be the tax revenue that could be split between education, treatment and other needs

Anybody watch the movie "traffic"?

Starring Michael Douglas?

It portrays the war on drugs from the gangs of Mexico all the way through to the rich white kids of the suburbs. Very truthful and moving...... the girl in rehab says it all when she says "for someone my age (she is 17) it is much easier to get drugs than alcohol.....like I said, very true
