The significance of yesterday’s shock announcement by our Energy Minister John Hayes that the Government plans to put a firm limit on the building of any more onshore windfarms is hard to exaggerate. On the face of it, this promises to be the beginning of an end to one of the greatest and most dangerous political delusions of our time.

A blistering row has broken out inside the Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc) after the Liberal Democrat energy secretary, Ed Davey, slapped down his new Conservative minister of state for claiming that no more onshore windfarms need be built in Britain.
In newspaper interviews, John Hayes said the country was "peppered" with onshore windfarms and that "enough is enough". He was quoted as saying the number of wind turbines in the UK "seems extraordinary", and "we can no longer have wind turbines imposed on communities".
A source said the minister had planned to make the remarks in a speech on Tuesday night but was instructed to remove them by Davey if he wanted to deliver a speech.
The source said: "What he planned to say was not government policy; will not be government policy. It might be what the Tory party would like to be energy policy, but it is not. He is not in charge of renewable policies on his own: he has to follow the coalition agreement, which is in favour of renewable energy and meeting our legal EU targets for 2020.

You people think, um, "wind turbines" are something new?
Who on this forum would like to know why wind turbines were replaced in the early 1900s by electrical pumps?
Wind turbines only provide power about 27% of the time -- during which they hack up birds and bats. The remaining 73% of the time they just look ugly and take up space.
Instead of fantasizing about wind turbines, why don't you calculate the number of wind turbines you'd need to power the US right now, and then look at the space requirements -- as in the amount of land you'll need to put all of those turbines on.
I'll help you out....generally it's 1.2 watts per square meter.
Dems are not too bright. The bulldoze farms and forrests to be green. HUH? They then build these stupid wind farms with turbines made in China to create jobs. HUH?

And I suppose the lesson here is "wind turbines bad, nuclear powerplants good". Well alright, go for it, just learn a thing or too from the Japanese and don't leave radioactive waste lying about by the gigaton. Criminy... we haven't even dealt with spent nuclear material from WWII. Coal... oil... the U.S. and Britain both are in the crosshairs of the rest of the world. If we don't get a clue soon and start acting like evolved civilized human beings we will be taken out for the good of the planet.

I look at it as more of "what is practical, what is not". The rest is political grandstanding motivated by idealistic morons who think reality operates on "hope and good intentions".
