The Dems just love to tell everyone how to live their lives and how to run their business. Here is an example of how unnecessary big government regulation kills business. It's a small one, but there is a direct cause and effect link. And now the people of Austin have ONE LESS CHOICE for services they need.

Government should never tell businesses what they can charge for their products and services.

Getting them out was their goal. These businesses in question are basically loan sharks gouging the poor. They make their money by luring desperate and financially uneducated people deep into what soon becomes inescapable debt.

As long as we're a country dependent on government consumption via the military, we'll just have to deal with big government.

Ah, bullpucky. They provide a service. That's it.

I've used them in the past, and somehow managed to escape the "inescapable" debt. Interest rates are high, yes, but these are very short term loans. If they loaned at 8% for a week or two, they wouldn't make anything at all. These are also unsecured loans - they have no recourse if the loan isn't paid back, so the risk is much higher, hence higher interest rates.

Nobody forces people to use these services. These are microlenders, not health insurance companies.

First of all nowhere in the article does it state that DEMS were responsible for what the Austin city council did so you are basically "bad mouthing" DEMS.
Also I wouldn't call "loan sharking" a business. There are such things as 'usary" laws which prohibits banks and credit cards from charging high interest rates. Do they fill a need? Yes but charging a high interest rate usually leads to default anyways.

The payday loan companies provide a service that is now no longer available to people who need it.

And we don't need you and big government telling people what they need. Government should not set prices. Government should ensure that the payday loan companies don't commit fraud or theft.

You didn't read your own story. They can (and a few are) still operate, just within certain parameters.

Reading. It's not for everyone.

Actually, we do. As was mentioned early, there is definitely a role in the government preventing usury.

Don't like it? Too bad.
