From what I'm reading, Colorado and Washington have a good chance at passing these measures. We will see, I hope its true. Much harder to break the ice, once its broken, it cracks and shatters pretty quick
I fear that in such an event that WA and CO legalize, then the federales will step in and get a court injunction to nullify the referendum results. State law cannot run contrary to federal law and I think the judges--both on the left and the right--will make sure that no state legalizes marijuana until there's a change in federal statutes.
That being said, I bet the legalization measures on the ballots in those states will fail. I think voters will reject such a proposal.

Its small amounts on a state level. The feds can't do that, because they still have a federal restriction.
Now, it could trigger a new wave of "treasury" police enforcing the volsted act. The feds can come in and enforce it
But I just don't see it happening. I think that, if its Obama and it looks like it will be, he will let it slide as an experiment.
That reminds me, neither politician has said anything about the legalization of hemp (for fear of the back lash I suppose) but would'nt this be the best and most obvious way to feul the economy and get people back to work? I guess the lumber, alcohol and pharm industries still have a firm control in Washington
Two disappointments as a Colorado voter. One the Amendment has too many details to put in State Constitution and two, it does not legalize hemp which would be a perfect crop for much of Colorado and would have drawn in the more conservative rural areas.
Wish all you dumb pot heads would get back in the closet and keep your private pleasures to yourself. No substance that alters human perception is good for society..we already live in a world controlled through deception..to add a hallucinatory substance to that kind of world..just makes things worse..take your dope and get back in your mothers basement and shut up.

Alcohol alters human perception as does a whole host of other legal, yet prescription drugs. Why single out marijuana?

Time will tell.
I think the DoJ would go through the courts and get an injunction that the state would have to follow or else it'd be like Ross Barnett circa 1962 all over again--yet on an issue that's entirely different from that of '62.

Well I graduated with my degree in electrical engineering with a 4.0 GPA, hold down a job that likely pays a lot more then yours and am a second level manager.

If I-502 and/or Amendment 64 pass, I'm definitely gonna put Washington and Colorado high on my list of places I'd like to move.
Dunno about CO, but I'm pretty sure you'll find WA has a slightly different view re: "states' rights" than you do (although you might like Spokane...)!
