I can't help but wonder how much better off we would all be, if we could manage to discuss what being labeled "conservative" or being labled "liberal" means to us, without disparaging those whose thoughts are different from outs.

Sure, but then we (and our elected leaders) would actually work on furthering our common interests as a nation. It is SOOO much easier to simply keep pointing fingers. You see, it keeps us from realizing that there are no easy solutions at hand and that we ALL need to compromise. Since that is too threatening a thought (god forbid voters would turn away from us and cost us our lovely high-paying jobs with all those wonderful perks and benefits), politicians simply try to shove the ball into the opposing team's court and hope that they fumble.

You, I, and the rest of the constituents pay the price. Alas, we also apparently buy hook, line, and sinker into the finger pointing. Just look at this thread...
