Before it was talk of climate-change, we learned how harmful oil and coal is to human health, as a motivation for nuclear power. Rightly so since nuclear hasnt scored many humans to die. To compare with fossile fuels as cause many cases of death.

Very strange this is forgotten today in our debate on climateproblems, since it is not only CO2 etc. that is harmful.
More strange are those who wish to end nuce and burn more fossile fuels instead.

Why are all those old facts forgotten now?

What facts? You haven't provided facts, merely made claims that are not properly supported.

ok, lets talk about nuclear power shall we? i am a huge proponent of nuclear power, but there are issues that need to be properly addressed. things like;

what do we do with the waste?
what happens when critical items fail at the wrong time?
how do we protect these power plants from a variety of attacks?

the spent fuel rods can be recycled and new rods made, but there are other waste issues that need to be dealt with.

and systems fail all the time, and while one failure isnt a problem, there are the occasional cascade failures that occurred at three mile island, chernobyl, and in japan. three mile island was nearly fully contained, but the other two were not.

and how about security around nuclear power plants? most of it is very good, but there are still holes in the security that can be exploited by someone with disastrous results.

as to fossil fuels, name another source that is available today at the same level as fossil fuels. you cant because we have been building the infrastructure based on fossil fuels for more than 125 years. so until such time as a replacement fuel can be found that has about the same cost as fossil fuels, and can either use the same infrastructure, or until such infrastructure can be built, we will continue to use fossil fuels.

There have been entire transportation systems with dedicated lines built just for nuclear power/energy/disposal. I truly don't think there is enough info available to people about this and simple fear keeps it from progressing.

true, but understand also that the large majority of nuclear waste is still being stored at the nuclear power plant sites. yucca mountain was supposed to be a repository for nuclear waste, but it isnt being fully utilized like it should be.

Simple fear has nothing to do with opposition to nuclear energy .... it is in reality, simple ignorance that promotes it.

The first issue is the extreme danger of the fuel and waste byproduct, and the reality that the mishandling or accidental release of that material into the environment is devastating to life as we know it in all forms, human, animal and plant .... and can remain a persistent danger for hundreds and thousands of years. It's this potential disaster and mess that science has yet to to discover how to clean up or deactivate, which defines the childish arrogance and hubris of the nuclear energy champions.

The reality is, man cannot predict or control geologic activity or prevent natural disasters from occurring, nor can man create a nuclear reactor that can withstand such events while guaranteeing the integrity of fuel containment and proper maintenance (cooling), even under ideal conditions.

Then, we add to these inherent dangers which exist under ideal circumstances, the human incompetence and irresponsibility factors that can always be counted on, and nuclear energy production is not just a bad idea, but a major disaster looking for a place to happen. And it has happened ... multiple times ... and the planet is in fact still being polluted with massive radioactive release from from the most recent of disasters ... Fukushima ... of which the damage is still ongoing and accumulating as we speak. Just because it's no longer the topic of CNN daily news, doesn't mean it's over or has been fixed.

The level of ignorance in dismissing the "theoretical" dangers inherent of nuclear power production is mind numbingly juvenile, but absolutely incredible and totally inexcusable given that we are now experiencing one of those "worst case scenario" in Japan, which is no longer a theoretical matter, but a reality. And the scientists there are clueless as to how to stop the continuing disaster unfolding, which holds the potential for causing incalculable harm to the entire western hemisphere.

The english language is limited in the words to describe the stupidity of those who dismiss the dangers of radioactive particulate polluting the land, sea and atmosphere, while warning of the "dangers" of CO2. I don't know where to place this on the long list of examples of supreme human ignorance ... but it's up there near the top.

Life has no meaning at all, if we cant deal with our climate-problems in due time, as is now soon or never.
I have warned of this for a long time, since all or parts of Australia and the whole world, southern Europe and US, will be unliveable first. If it goes on, all humans will be extinguished.

China may fix their problems, US have to follow where there are most political problems today with many lobbyists, who can kill us with words if they get paid. Against all real climate experts who agree we are in serious trouble, since this is man made with a certainty of almost 100%!

Uninformed sceptics and fools have very simple matters to consider:
To store coal in millions of years and burn it all in a short time, has never been a “natural variation”, it affects us with to much CO2 and when it gets warmer, methane gas will come up as is 25 time times more lethal than CO2.

And we have to change energy systems anyway, since fossil fuels will end, so why wait and risk all our lives, what can You do?

Most nuclear waste can be reused in modern day nuclear power plants. But we won't build modern nuclear power plants so the point is moot.
