Anyone can call themselves a Conservative and anyone can call themselves a Progressive.

How is it, that someone that calls themselves Conservative, have so many cancerous Progressive values?

Lets face it, if you ride down the middle of the road, you will eventually get run over. This is what the Republican party has become. The hand picked, not elected, Progressive Republicans that flip flop back and forth across the center stripe.

The Republican party is no longer the party of Conservatives. It is the party of the center stripe.

People who think they're conservative sometimes aren't.

Liberals who think they're liberal actually tend to be liberal.

I don't know how old you are but from my perspective it takes a lot of temerity for someone who I am fairly certain has never held an elected position in the Republican Party or who has any historical familiarity with lions of the Republican Party like Jacob Javits, Everett McKinley Dirksen, Edward Books, Nelson Rockefeller, George H. W. Bush, Raymond P. Shafer, Charles H. Percy, Mark Hatfield, George W. Romney, Dwight D. Eisenhower or for that matter believe it or not, Richard Nixon all of whom predate any of the Tea Party charlatans who claim to know who is or who isn't a proper Republican.

The beliefs of "Conservative" and "Liberal" Americans have changed over time as the country changed.

With this in mind, what do you mean the "core" principles of a Conservative?

In general:

People who claim to be very liberal = full blown socialist

People who claim to be liberal = hardcore liberal

People who claim to be middle of the road = liberal

People who claim to be conservative = 50% chance of actually being a liberal even though they don't know it. Support of many multitudes of government programs and bureaucracies alone is enough to classify them as liberals.
