Is there some problem with immigration laws that calls for reform?

There has to be some changes, and I would like to see the GOP come up with some workable plan, at least start the ball rolling. Here is my simplistic idea, of course it would need to be amended but for starters: we know we can not send 10, to 20 million people back home.

Give amnesty to people who have been here more than 10 years: who have never had a run in with the law: have worked and contributed to the economy, are willing to pay a fine and apply for citizenship as well as learn English..For those who were brought here as children and had no say so, they should be offered amnesty if they have had no run ins with the law and apply for citizenship as well as have jobs or are in school. As for in state tuition? I am on the fence with that one.

No reform. We have amnesty already. It's just a matter of finding the loopholes in the Constitution so they can qualify for government benefits.

Yes, Obama will announce within the next month or at the State of the Union address. A massive citizenship giveaway program with little if any restrictions.

It is possible. Obama already brought about some immigration reform for illegal people. He also was President when more people in the History of the U.S. were deported than any other time. So, there may be reform for illegal persons that have been here since childhood, know English, have no criminal history, have attended school here, and pay taxes. Only time will tell.

Please. That was one year's worth of statistics and included self-deportations and border crossing refusals. Obama himself even admitted that number was not totally accurate.

No. After failed promise of the 80's reform to close borders ;we saw what happened when under Bush it was proposed again. Passing a reform with amnesty is near inpossible as Obama learn when he had to resort to temporary presidential order for what he got.He couodn;t even get it to floor in senate.

So he EO'd "deferred whatever" which is infinitely renewable and de facto amnesty.
It's just a matter of finding a way to let them get benefits now.
