Voters approve I-502 legalizing marijuana | Local News | The Seattle Times
Washington state voters passed a ballot measure to legalize possession of up to 1 ounce of marijuana. It is passing now by a healthy 55-45 margin. I would have guessed it to be much closer. The new law does not allow street sales or even home grown pot. It will have to be sold in stores that will be licensed by the state liquor board.
Enter the feds. The federal Dept of Justice has issued a statement that "
indicating that Washington D.C., not Washington’s two U.S. Attorneys, will be dictating what comes next" says the Seattle Times.

Ironically by re-electing Pres. Obama, we presumably will get another 4 years of Drug Czar Gil Kerlikowske, who is adamantly anti-marijuana. He even opposes 'medical' mj, so it doesn't get much more hard line that that.
So what happens next? State-licensed stores open up, and the DEA rolls in with MP5 sub-guns to shut 'em down? The Obama admin is hardly going to be sympathetic to a 'states rights' argument. It's going to be a mess.
