I'm having some Stone & Landscape work done. He just offered a $100 discount for cash.

With the rise in taxes, we will start seeing an even larger Black Market. People will keep enough to live on even if it means Tax Fraud or Evasion.

I see a huge growth in the cash business.

This makes me wonder, I just had my drive way and have a new patio and the company told me cash only before they started.

Don't wonder. People have to get by.
Reality is that the economy is NOT good. Reality is that everything costs more then what the CPI tells us.

I have also done cash only business with service folks in the past couple of months.
These are small local business owners.

That's Texas for you. There is a huge underground economy here due to contractors needing no license. I don't see why your contractor wanted cash enough to give a discount, unless you were going to charge it. They usually take your check straight to your bank to cash it.

IMO, that's why Texas will never have an income tax.

The Govt has eliminated Food "Stamps" and gone to a Debit card. Is that the new Govt issued card to keep track of our money ? They fade out cash and force you to pay electronically ?

We're not that far away from a cashless society.

How do you know that ? Making some broad assumptions there buddy.

And FYI I did use a licensed electrician for my electrical work.
But for the tree trimming I don't think they need to be licensed.

Why would a Landscaper need a license ? There is a huge underground economy throughout the whole US not just in TX.

Almost all Fireman have a 2nd business, many of it is cash. Not every occupation needs to be licensed.

Because to throw that out makes him smug in the thought that everyone is doing everything illegally.

Yes, the Laws of Economics can never be violated, and when you violate them, Black Markets are created for any number of reasons.

You'll start seeing things like landlords taking cash payments and such off the books and many, many other types of activities related to skirting taxes.

Economically...
