How many gun owners have been in situations when they needed to use their guns?
That's the oddest argument from a Leftist that I've ever seen. Typically, your side claims "if I can help just one person" or they'll argue that one person needs help, and that means that we have to endure an obstruction on some liberty to stop the suffering of that proverbial one person. But here, you're arguing that the one person whom protects their self doesn't matter.

That's fascinating.
No argument, just a question which I already know the answer. Most gun owners will never need their guns. If it makes you sleep better at night or feel stronger, than I guess the benefit is psychologocial, but that's about it for the vast majority of gun owners. To me it's not really a wise investment, maybe in the future I'll change my mind and buy one.
About the TP... you know over the decades we've always make fun of people who run to the supermarket before a hurricane and clean out the store of toilet paper but now I think of those people in NY and NJ with the sucky power companies, Hurricane Sandy and who can't drive anywhere because of gasoline issues and now it doesn't seem so foolish...

Sure. In the same way that packing my lunch the night before creates a psychological benefit: I'm more prepared for the future, and I have a broader range of options as a result.

We're a nation of debtors; we don't invest wisely anyway.
Go try a live fire NRA intro class. For around $100, you can learn all about firearms, fire a variety of them, and have a little fun. The last time I checked, you could search for an NRA certified instructor on the NRA site.

Even if you don't like guns, the 3 best investments you can make right now are the 3 G's. Gold, Gas and Guns. Especially NFA/ClassIII weapons, they appreciate about 15% every year due to supply and demand.
And yea, I'm one of those people who would refuse to turn them over. I'm prepared to be jailed, give up my job/life to defend my constitutional rights. I don't think it would ever get that far though. All it would take would be to get some of the military on our side.
I don't have an iphone, but if I did I'm pretty sure I'd be in a situation that I would need one. How many gun owners have been in situations when they needed to use their guns? Very small percentage
No one "needs" an iphone, they are simply a luxury,...an expensive electronic typewriter that takes pictures and video.
Try shooting a wild hog with an iphone. Better yet, the next time someone kicks in your door and threatens your family, point your iphone at them and hold them until the police get there.

Define need. I try to harvest an elk or deer every year with mine.
As to defensive handguns...how often have you "needed" seat belts or air bags? Or if you ride, a motorcycle helmet?
How many gun owners have been in situations when they needed to use their guns?
For decades the stats have all been the same. Gun owners are far more likely to have a gun accident at home than they are to need their guns for self defense.
A gun is no good, if you don't have ammo and gunpowder....
