I do agree that Obama needs to try to pull this nation together. We are too divided on so many issues. I don't think the South needs to be more divisive. Instead we need to work together to fix what is wrong with our country.

As long as compromise doesn't mean giving the democrats most of what they want, and have them come back tomorrow for the rest of it...

IMO Democratic policies are what is wrong with the country, probably not a lot of room for compromise there.

I haven't seen the Alabama petition, but I did sign the ones for Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. As I live in Texas, have lived in Louisiana, and am native of Florida.

How about North Alabama above the Tennessee River join Tennessee? This state has held this area back more than anything.

For the life of me can I fathom anyone even thinking about any state seceding from the US is feasible - where will the $ come from, trade, commerce? Will there be Alabamian passports, or will the withdrawn states form their own 'country'? The 'Not-so-much-USA'? As a European who's lived here for nearly 20 years I can't help but chuckle when I see these knee jerk reactions, secession, emigrating to Canada (yeah, not like they have socialism there...), Mexico - I guess the only thing that can be said to the not-wanting-to-live-in-the-US, is the same as many immigrants (legal or not) hear "if you don't like it here, leave..." - for the record, I'm as legal as anyone - did my INS visits & paid my dues...no matter what or who the president is, the US won't change overnight, there has never been, nor will there ever be a president that has 'that' much power...to just bring overnight change to every Americans life...how much change have y'all seen in the last 4 years? Not enough to cause this seemingly mass hysteria we're currently seeing, the GOP has been very good at not going along with the current administration, & the Dems haven't exactly played well with the other side either...I've seen division, but nothing like we're seeing now - not just political, but race & gender as well - it's beyond sad. This last election showed the far right evangelical patriots one thing, you cannot ignore young, educated women & minorities...they better start pandering to them soon, because one day soon the good ole boy system won't work any longer & they'll have to get along with people of another color & race!

I keep thinking no way this will ever happen, but then I wonder if my forefathers thought the same way before they fought for the Confederacy.
Dumb, dumb dumb. Premature move with absolutely no LEGAL foundation at this time.
As a very Conservative Republican I do not like the idea that Obama won the election for President. However he did NOT win a majority in the House of Representatives. His Democratic Party holds a slight edge in the Senate that could be the straw that broke the Camel's back. The real danger to our country will be WHEN Obama appoints two or three Liberal Supreme Court Justices. Eventually Second Amendment rights will be before the SCOTUS again and with a possible 6-3 or 7-2 Liberal Supreme Court there may be a ruling totally outlawing private citizens from owning guns. The real test of our right to exist as FREE MEN will come when idiots in SCOTUS pave the way for our Senate & Congress to pass and enforce firearms confiscation laws. I hope I am dead and buried when that happens.
