I guess this is the question everyone will ask in the coming weeks.

Did Obama win because of his support of gay marriage and women's reproductive rights?

Or did Obama win because he was more in touch with the middle class, while Romney was perceived as an elitist?

Obama won because every election is a choice and Obama was the better choice. Not to mention Willard's misguided campaign tried to frame the election as a referendum on Obama which allowed Obama to define Willard as the slimy, corporate raiding, outsourcing, out of touch shapeshifter that he is.Terrible strategy for a flawed candidate.

You are asking two questions as if they are completely different.

Obama won because he's a political Robin Hood. He'll steal from the rich to give the poor, and will save the damsels in distress. New stats out today: StarWatch Consumer | Food stamps reach record 47.1 million - KansasCity.com

47.1m on food stamps now. He's been the most successful welfare President in history. That was 47m votes built into his base and the main reason why he won.

Who says he really won? He's a sham from the start and still is. He was put in power to be a useful idiot and he does what he's told to do. Only fools think he'll ever do anything to help anybody but himself and his masters.

On the social issues...it's not so much that Obama won, but that the GOP is so incredibly out of touch that they were disqualified.

Social issues energized young voters and brought them out in greater numbers than in 2008, something nobody expected. The people on welfare or looking for a handout are always going to vote Democrat and always have. It was the youth voters, voting in support of same sex marriage and abortion, who made the difference and won the election for Obama.

It's both. Romney's big claim to fame was that he's a business genius, but he refused to provide details to show just exactly what his dealings were. He picked Paul Ryan as VP, and although they hemmed and hawed flip flopped about it, it became pretty clear through other R surrogates and congressional members that they were going for the Ryan plan, which scares the crap out of me and lots of others. How does increasing military spending (huge portion of the federal budget) above war time levels, at the same time that you give tax breaks to the rich, cut the deficit, unless you gut SS, medicare and medicaid. On top of that, they'd have to raise taxes on people like me to even break even. It was insane. They showed complete disdain for the middle class and poor (remember the 47% comments?) which made it really clear that he had no intention of working on behalf of those groups. You couldn't trust a word he said because of the flip flopping. This "looking for a handout" rhetoric is absolutely insulting--I pay more in taxes than most people earn in a year--and if the far right keeps it up, you're only going to keep ticking off more and more people than you already have. Most people don't want a handout, but they do want things to be fair.

ON TOP OF THAT, the "new republicans" have been outright hostile to women, minorities, gays etc., and tried to push through social policy that, once again, pushed a far radical right agenda, and scared the crap out of people. It was big, ginormous, invasive government.

I don't think Obama is a super hero, but things ARE getting better, and at least we know what we've got. I think we're going to have some painful cuts in spending, but I trust the Obama administration to level it out across all income groups so it doesn't just hit the middle class vs. what this new batch of R's would do if they were in power.

That's a no brainer.

The campaign was run on social issues which dominated the press.

I didn't hear a lot of talk on fiscal issues.

The Blacks didn't want to get put back into chains or sent to the fields to pick crops.
The woman didn't want to go back to the 1800's when they could not work and had lots of kids.
The gays didn't want to get shoved back into the closet never to be heard or seen.
The seniors didn't want to be left to die in their home for lack of SS
And nobody wants to be left to die in the streets because they don't have health insurance.
The Hispanics don't want to see their relatives dragged back over the borders.

Was there debate over whether or not the US should have a national balanced budget ?
Was there debate over the US role as policeman and invader of the world ?
Was there debate about the direction the country should go to create new industry to take the place of the ones offshored ?

NO. The campaign was run on immediate gratification of social issues.

One "intellectual" voter in Boston said her top priority in this election was doctor assisted suicide and she was voting on that issue.

I'd wager half of Americans couldn't even spell sequestration never mind tell you what it means to the US budget next year.

Obama won because the Latinos self deported Romney back to Massachusetts.

Their 40 point margin amounted to a 4.8 million Obama margin, about 150% of the national margin.

By goose-stepping to Perry's right when rp was MALICIOUSLY JEERED, MR gave Obama a 2nd term.

The "47"%" won the election...Obama had an overwhelming majority of the poorest and least educated in America.

Romeny was primarily supported by anyone earning approximately 50k or more with a college degree. Married women also overwhelmingly supported Romney to single women.

He also had the "Joe cool" popularity factor which made him likable backed by Hollywood celebridum. The only person that could have beaten him was a resurrected Michael Jackson.
