Eh, this exact same stuff was going on when I was in college, which was decades ago. Before craigslist, egg donation outfits would just solicit on the campuses of Ivy League schools.
Also, sperm donation companies rigorously screen applicants in much the same way. (It just doesn't pay as much because...it's a much less traumatic donation process).
To put it another way: if DNA testing ever becomes available that can predict whether a child will turn out gay, would you suddenly become pro-choice?
Absolutely not. I would oppose "gay selective" abortions, in either direction, just as vehemently as all other abortions.
Did you really think otherwise?
If a "gay gene" were to be discovered (unlikely in my view, but let's go with it), the person so burdened would be no different than someone born with an "alcoholic gene" or a "violent temper gene" or a "shoplifting gene". Everyone has to struggle against sinful inclinations of some kind. None are less human, none have less worthy lives, because of a genetic disposition to certain bad behaviors.

But either way, how does your desire to engineer society to your own specifications really differ from those couples' desire to have children with certain characteristics? Their alleged desire to have "pure" children is akin to your professed desire to live in a "pure" society. Either way there will be certain groups of people who become invisible or vanish entirely.
I don't want a "pure society" - I would be the first to be excluded - I simply want a good society that honors God and the dignity of human life while allowing sufficient tolerance for human frailty. Only human acts (or their neglect) can offend God and the dignity of human life. There is nothing about genetic defects or dispositions that renders anyone unworthy of human life or dignity.

You honestly think that this kind of business would be stupid enough to say that applicants must have had "at least one semester of college or being pursuing a successful modeling/acting career?" Please. That is ridiculous.
Why not? You should read some university websites these days.
A stupid, ridiculous business is going to say stupid, ridiculous things.
Incidentally, I was indeed a sperm donor a few years back. $150 a pop. Not a bad deal when you're looking for work. Because of my genetic traits and personal/family history, I guess my DNA was in demand...
How exactly do you get from picky egg-choosers to mandatory eugenics?
Those "picky egg choosers" are practicing eugenics.
It's not the same as choosing a spouse where genetic considerations, which may or may not be present, are deeply subordinated. The "egg choosers" are shopping for the genetically perfect child, period.

I actually signed that I would be open to any child conceived with my sperm obtaining general information about me (DOB, place of birth, height, personal and family medical history, etc) and also that if they wanted to meet me in the future, I'd be open to it.
Will they? I don't know. That's their decision. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they did, indeed, want to know more about where they came from, if they shared any personality traits with me... things like that. I'd also understand if they didn't want to know. I did find out from the clinic that there were multiple successful conceptions with my sperm, so it's a very real possibility. I am totally at peace with this and have been from the start.
Newsflash - people have been choosing egg donors since time began. Except it wasn't done in a lab - men would choose the best looking women and vice versa. Back then it was called looking for a partner.
It's the same thing; except now the Christian nutjobs go..well nuts
