Hostess has made a lot of stupid management decisions over the years. Not coming up with new formulas to try to cut down on the HFCS in their products is one of them. I remember in the 90's and maybe some of you do too. Hostess decided to open their own retail stores. Right up the street where I work they built a new building, when they could have leased a number of older buildings to just try out the idea first. It lasted 6 months and now it's an auto parts store. All they accomplished was they pissed off their retail partners.

How could you take that brandname "Wonderbread" and run it into the ground? This is more than a union issue. This is poor management and I think a natural death for a company that failed to change with the times and diversify their product line.

It's a sad day, Hostess at one time was one of the biggest names in US business.

So was Woolworth's. The icons of the past are falling on the wayside as society evolves.

But how is it the politics of the left that has caused Hostess to basically go under? Two bankruptcies, mismanagement over 2 decades and it's the fault of the left? Not hardly.

Say what you want about unions. Yes, there are some bad ones, but there are also some good ones. You take away the unions and the American people (the same ones decrying them) will be the same ones screaming bloody murder when working conditions dwindle and people are working for next to nothing under miserable conditions (China 2.0). Sorry, for me, unions do have their place still in today's society. Maybe the do need to revamp for the current economy but still important nevertheless.

Well with the price of food nowdays folks can buy a loaf of hy vee bread for a 1.20 and wonder bread costs 1.99. Guess which loaf they are grabbing. Why the difference in cost? Could it be the wonderful union employees?

Nice, this is making all of the news outlets. Loving the bad press the unions are getting.

Yes, when all one has is a hammer, the whole world becomes a nail.

Some people wake up every day wondering what new event they can blame on Bush.

I agree as a union person there are some bad unions no doubt. But no matter what they are serving a purpose. They may seem like bullies and thugs (and maybe they are) but in the end they are helping other workers, even the ones not paying dues.

You guy could have ended all wars 4 years ago. Yes, they are not winnable, so why doesn't your idiot end them instead of spending $170 billion every year over there?

Obama is a war monger just like Bush.

In this case approx 18,500 people will lose their job, so it is a big story. The company is looking for someone to buy them out.

The Hostess bakery in Seattle, which makes Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Fruit Pies, etc. is closing down. The bakery is over 100 years old, althought the exact year of inception is in question. A week after election 2012 it is kaput. 110 jobs that paid low-middle class wages, about $15-20 per hour, are gone.

The bakery was somewhat of a local legend because the area was a mecca for prostitutes, who dubbed it the 'Hostess stroll.'

I have a personal connection because 20 years ago I was working at a convenience store when a man tried to rob me. He bought a Hostess fruit pie for a dollar then demanded "the money." Taking note of the bb gun he had shoved way down into his waistband, and my Glock 19 in a quick-draw holster, I declined and chased him out of the store. I kept his dollar--I hope he enjoyed that Hostess fruit pie, a product of the now-closed Seattle plant.

So, a union strike, caused the company to fold. Isn't that what the unions want, when they strike.
If we don't get what we want, we will put you out of business.

Rick Perry needs to offer Hostess a deal to move their operations to Texas and live happily ever after.
