Jobless claims drop, factories post rebound | Reuters

Quote:
(Reuters) - The number of Americans filing new claims for jobless benefits fell last week but remained elevated due to superstorm Sandy, a sign the storm is proving to be a substantial disruption to the labor market.
Other data on Wednesday showed stronger growth in U.S. manufacturing in November.
Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 41,000 to a seasonally adjusted 410,000, the Labor Department said. That was smack in line with the median forecast in a Reuters poll.
Another FAILED thread!

Nice job Republicans!!!

Those who support Obama don't really care if there are jobs or not, as long as the food stamp card keeps getting filled and the housing voucher keeps getting them free housing and the unemployment checks arrive on time and indefinitely.

Which may very well be adjusted UP just like last weeks (and most others) but you knew that. Let's just say for the sake of this conversation that the current object of blame really did have an impact on the number okay?
Now a rational person would have to agree that it certainly didn't rise to 400,000 people affected right? So how many are thought to be "jobless" due to Sandy? 200,000? 100,000? I'd bet it's somewhere below 40,000, probably much below.
So, let's be generous and give it 50,000 okay? Well, 50k from last weeks 456k leaves mmmmm, ahhh, 406k if I did the math right? So that's 406k people out of work with nothing but the current administration to blame it on and because this weeks "may" be a bit lower but still above 400k we're happy?

We won't know the "real" number given this week until next week, it's sure to rise but hopefully not to 450k. I certainly wouldn't be out here crowing about a minor drop from way,way too much to just way too much and I'd bet some of the 400k on that list would agree.

Yes, because catastrophic events that happened 4 to 12 years ago could not possible still be having an effect on us.

That kind willful amnesia is what is unbelievable. Oh and BTW all signs point to the economy improving, kind of nullifies the whole argument.

For whom? Just a bit of anecdotal info, my brother works in N. CA picking up Hazmat so he sees most of the tech companies as well as other types of manufacturing plants and stores. He's noticed a fairly consistent emptying of the employee parking lots and in the last couple of months has done several "last pickups" from companies that are shutting down that location or simply shutting down period.
Traffic is another barometer and he says it's been light for months contrary to the "it's getting better" claims.
The economy is anemic at best and whatever happens next year the rise in taxes is going to HURT any minute recovery we're now seeing. Even Obama knows this as he's said before "you don't raise taxes in a bad economy".

Now if we can just legalize Pot everywhere we'll be home free!

So we are currently in "believe the job numbers" mode?

Its such a dynamic vibe, hard to keep up.

4-12 years? Is that all the further your memory goes back? Seriously? So, let me get this straight, as long as a Democrat was in office the world was a rosy place and no mistakes that would bite us in the butt later on were made right?
Talk about amnesia!
Depending on who your asking of course wasn't there at least 3 catastrophic events that happened in just the last 4 years? Obmacare, the Debt and Libya? I left printing boatloads of money and bailouts out of the mix so as not to make the conversation too messy.
I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder (or recipient).
