Big defense cuts = bye-bye California. Maybe California will have to tax the illegals to get all that money for schools and pensioners.

So government spending does create jobs?

Do you hear yourself? First it was defending multi-millionaires that was wrong; then millionaires; now we shouldn't be defending those earning $200-250k

What a crock of slow demise. The jealous have-nothings wanting to steal from the middle class now. I feel like this is the modern day French Revolution.

Defense spending creates jobs in defense. Unemployment spending creates unemployment. Welfare spending creates welfare dependency. Many defense jobs are in California -- good paying jobs that create a tax base, so who do you really hurt when you slash all that?

Those who work in the defense industry then take that income and buy goods and services, which creates and sustains other jobs. Those getting unemployment and welfare take that money and buy goods and services, which also creates and sustains other jobs.

I'm glad to see you are now a Keynesian.

What makes you think that this is not part of the plan to increase taxes on everyone? He knows the middle class is the widest base of voters. Do you really think he would tell you the truth?

Democrats even admit that taxing the rich will not be enough. Warren Buffett said that does not matter because it would help the middle class moral.
If they do expire then the democrats can ask for tax cuts for every one except the $200000/$250000 and if the republicans vote no on it then the people will know who the republicans are fighting for.

I'm okay with the fiscal cliff at this point even if it cuts defense spending. It's time we get out of Afghanistan also. And states like California can look at other sources to tax when defense workers are laid off. This is the Obama economy after all.

The short term pain would be bad, but long term we wouldn't have a deficit problem.

Just think: raising taxes on the middle class takes money away from the greedy corporations you all despise. What better way to stick it to the man than by giving your money to Uncle Sam....
