I think you know as well as everyone else that most people working retail have zero passion for it, it's simply the best they could get. They should still be treated well and not be worked to death as wage slaves. One of the few European laws I'd like to see here is the paid vacation time they get, often at least a month total.

So what's up with your point?
If you feel so strongly about people having to work on holidays, start your own business and give your employees paid vacations. Let other businesses run their operations the way they choose.

You don't have to work for a company that requires holiday hours.

No, it's not about me only. I'm not selfish, and I think about other workers and small business owners who already have it tough with the competition of big stores. Even when I stop working in retail within few hours after finishing college, I will continue to fight about keeping stores CLOSED on major holidays, and fight for treating ALL workers fairly like other developed nations!

When will America learn family and work balance like in Europe?

Perhaps you should invent a time machine if you want to return to the 1890's.

I have run my own business, and there are plenty of jobs that do not require holiday hours.
My partner gets a 4 day weekend on Thanksgiving and 2 weeks for Christmas.

If you don't like working holiday hours get a different job.

Great, will you be advocating a full 6 month paid maternity leave? How about full paid medical benefits for part time employees?

I hope you are willing to pay more for everything.

If a business employs people, they need to be held to certain standards. There are not plenty of other jobs around either.

There are in my town. One of the major employers can't fill all their positions. They provide excellent medical insurance, and they are closed all major holidays. Great pay and retirement packages too.

LMAO! Says the person who will pitch a hissy fit if someone doesn't notice they are wearing a cross and single them out to wish them a Merry X-mas instead of a Happy Holiday.
