Yes, I'm sure it's higher than that, but even those 3.9% = hundreds of millions of $ profit.

How can it be higher than that? Are you suggesting that Walmart is lying to the SEC?

It's about 16 Billion in dollars. But the dollar amount doesn't matter. It's all about percentages. In the past 12 months, the S&P is up 17%. Walmart is under-performing the market. Generally, 3.9% is not an ideal amount of profit.

Speaking of Tennessee:

"Nearly one-quarter of Wal-Mart’s 37,000 workers in Tennessee rely on Medicaid, according to state officials who released the figures at the request of the Chattanooga Times Free Press."

Or other states:

"Other states have also found that Wal-Mart’s labor practices are placing a heavy burden on public assistance programs. Last year Georgia revealed that 10,000 children of Wal-Mart employees are enrolled in the state’s healthcare program for uninsured children. West Virginia and Washington reported that significant numbers of Wal-Mart employees depend on state programs to make ends meet."

It's not like someone is making this stuff up!

Pretty sad that China-mart with its inferior goods and poor labor practices has such a lousy profit margin lately too.

maybe people are sick of buying inferior trash.

And Walmart's not alone, workers at Mcdonalds, Target, Publix and dozens of other retail employers in the U.S. pay their workers so little that they are forced to rely on public assistance. It makes me ashamed to live in America.

I didnt know Publix was that bad also. Time to boycott.
The walmarts in East Tenn are disgusting. wont even buy a bag of dog food there.

What is "enough" profit?

What is enough for employees to be paid and companies have a profit that can be used to expand their operations?

Offhand when you invest your money into stocks, do you do it in a company that makes profits or ones tht don't but overpay their employees?

You are the ones demanding stores stay open 24/7/365.

That means a company has to hire more workers.
More workers means there's less $$$ to go around.

You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

9-9 Mon-Fri and you'd balk. Means less workers though and each worker could get higher pay and a better chance at a raise.

Do you even understand what a profit margin is, or do you just come here to run your mouth and make no sense? If tomorrow Walmart only sold half of what they sold today, their profit margin would not change.

If they weren't open 24 hours they could let go of that third shift.
how many people really shop at 3am ? Shoplift is more than likely.

They are still paying wages to keep the store open and probably not making much revenue off it.

Boycott WalMart!!Don't shop there! The Waltons already have too much money!!

Wouldn't it be interesting if the Waltons listened too you all and felt so guilty that they agreed ......settled for the money they have and and closed all the stores?

Well that is fair, but a stretch. I feel that the poster was trying to imply that a change in volume somehow has a direct impact on profit margins.
