Is the rate of HIV infection really rising though?

Also, I'm curious about what the actual costs of HIV testing is if unsubsidized. If the real cost of the test is actually close to the $20 mark charged at clinics, then I actually might change my position on this.

only 20% of carriers tell their partner.
this means there are lots of people that got it and dont know it.
the perfect killer no show on tests up to 90 days and no physical symptoms for 7 years.

I just don't think the numbers are there to justify a mandate.

Do you get an annual HIV screening ?

I don't. I've seen too much. I know for a fact that there are people with HIV who have not and will not inform their own spouse and they are not required to do so.

I know for a fact that there are men who have full blown AIDS who do not tell their own wife -- and she is led to believe he has lymphoma. And I know some have gone to their graves never informing the wife.

I also know for a fact that many prostitutes continue to sell sex for money because they still need the money for their drug, knowing their HIV status doesn't cure drug addictions and what else can they do to get money to buy their drugs?

If you really want to slow the spread of HIV, there are far better ways than just requiring everyone to be tested and then allowing them to keep their results to themselves.

I personally don't get an annual ANYTHING but when I do have a physical with bloodwork it wouldn't be a big deal to me to add this to the "list of things that are important to know during a physical".

the big problem is that we were told back in the early 80s that if nothing was done, HIV infections rates would soar to huge amounts in a few years, and that has not happened, at least not in this country. since i dont share drug needles, or have sex with strange people, my risk of getting infected is quite tiny indeed.

Who has good data on what the real/unsubsidized cost of the test is?

Telling a bunch of people who have been married 20 years they HAVE TO get it is ridiculous.

In fact, I am not for testing huge swaths of people for a disease that is largely due to behavior.

The fact is that there really is no sound logic for this.
Married for 20 years doesn't mean squat.
Married people cheat you know.....General Petraeus.

Now what if the General had slept with someone who was Hiv positive?

Being married doesn't mean you are immune from Std.
Face it,most married people today aren't faithful.

Whoever made Hipaa,blame them.

Let's make a hypothetical story...
Some guy at my clinic tested positive for Hiv.
Now,I have a friend that tells me her date is on his way. The date is the same guy who tested positive at the clinic.
Be cuase of Hippa,I can't tell my friend the guy is Hiv positive. If I do,I may lose my nursing license, and I will get fined heavily.
