its over 50,000 and climbing. Thats 1000 per state per year. 80 per month ( 20 per week) by 12 months=960 per year, for each state. People grow old and other...and die of flu related disease, thats a poor analogy even if somewhat close.
Is the rate of HIV infection really rising though?
Also, I'm curious about what the actual costs of HIV testing is if unsubsidized. If the real cost of the test is actually close to the $20 mark charged at clinics, then I actually might change my position on this.
only 20% of carriers tell their partner.
this means there are lots of people that got it and dont know it.
the perfect killer no show on tests up to 90 days and no physical symptoms for 7 years.

I just don't think the numbers are there to justify a mandate.
I'm actually amazed that people are on here opposing this idea. I don't see how this is a political issue unless you create a very contrived argument. This kind of seems like a no brainer to me. It goes right along with the idea of a cent worth of prevention equals a dollar worth of treatment. What is the hang up here?
You two hold high esteem of your fellow humans. I think testing could have an effect on prevention rates. Then again, I believe most humans are decent beings.
I don't. I've seen too much. I know for a fact that there are people with HIV who have not and will not inform their own spouse and they are not required to do so.
I know for a fact that there are men who have full blown AIDS who do not tell their own wife -- and she is led to believe he has lymphoma. And I know some have gone to their graves never informing the wife.
I also know for a fact that many prostitutes continue to sell sex for money because they still need the money for their drug, knowing their HIV status doesn't cure drug addictions and what else can they do to get money to buy their drugs?
If you really want to slow the spread of HIV, there are far better ways than just requiring everyone to be tested and then allowing them to keep their results to themselves.
I personally don't get an annual ANYTHING but when I do have a physical with bloodwork it wouldn't be a big deal to me to add this to the "list of things that are important to know during a physical".
the big problem is that we were told back in the early 80s that if nothing was done, HIV infections rates would soar to huge amounts in a few years, and that has not happened, at least not in this country. since i dont share drug needles, or have sex with strange people, my risk of getting infected is quite tiny indeed.

Whoever made Hipaa,blame them.
Let's make a hypothetical story...
Some guy at my clinic tested positive for Hiv.
Now,I have a friend that tells me her date is on his way. The date is the same guy who tested positive at the clinic.
Be cuase of Hippa,I can't tell my friend the guy is Hiv positive. If I do,I may lose my nursing license, and I will get fined heavily.
