Very good article:

Israel, face new reality: Talk to Hamas - CNN.com

In a new Middle East, where popular opinion matters more than ever before, to demand that people condemn Hamas is a political nonstarter. It won't happen. Israel's talk of Hamas terrorism has failed to convince the Muslim and Arab masses. And worse, the label of "terror" loses its importance when entire populations, essentially, see nothing wrong with Hamas's violent activities.

In short, Israel's strategy has failed to win Muslim hearts and minds. In the long term, it cannot continue to rely on military superiority and Western support in the face of popular hostility. Israel is a nation in the Middle East, and it needs to find a home and place among its increasingly democratic neighbors. The old ideas of "we do not talk to terrorists" are not only strategically futile, but also untrue.

This part is very spot on.

A tiny nation of seven million cannot be allowed to damage ties between 360 million Americans and 300 million Arabs. Conversely, Arabs have a duty to recognize Israel as home to the children of Abraham, the descendants of Moses.

Maybe Hamas should stop firing rockets. Just a thought from a non-jew.

Hamas needs to recognize Israel's right to exist and not bent on Israel's destruction. After that realistic compromises need to be made on both sides.

From combined mortar and rocket attacks from 2001 to 2012 Gaza has fired 12791 individual attacks. This is from an 11 year period. Now...11 years is comprised of 4,015 days. For the mathematically illiterate this is 3.19 rocket or mortar attacks daily into the State of Israel from Gaza.

Hamas needs to put Jihad away if anything needs to happen. I can't believe the American Left supports gay hating, women beating, child molesting, human shield using, child using suicide bomber, religious zealots like they do with Islamo-Nazis.

The only side abiding to it is Israel. I guess they'll give Hamas a few extra hours before responding.

Who said Israel needed to or wanted to "win Muslim hearts and minds"?

The agressor has been Hamas, and other terrorist/extremists. Israel has shown restraint in responding to the attacks. I wouldn't have been as forgiving.

i agree that hamass needs to recognise israels right to exist , that + a withdraw by israel to pre 1967 borders must form the basis for a long and lasting agreement

He is still probably razzel dazzeled with Hillary's cease fire, which is only a one way cease fire as usual.

I wonder how long Israel will remain patient this time, before they just let Hell loose. Maybe this time they should just take Egypt and keep it...

Hillary and the left are a joke.... The left still doesn't 'get' you can't send a woman to do a man's job. All hillary is to the muslims is a goat in a blue dress.
