As I feel with the death penalty, I feel about this. The governing body should seek to act in a manner that is more ethical and moral than the criminals in it's society.

That POS needs to go.

We are WAY to lenient with drunk driving in this country. Frankly, I don't know what is wrong with people and why it's so accepted. It's effed up.
I'm with you on this.

I cannot imagine the number of times this guy has driven while super loaded and not been pulled over.

If the consequences were stiffer initially, the greater the liklihood there would be no second DUI.

The trick is how to turn the penal system into a break even proposistion for tax payers.

I think chopping off a couple of hands is far more ethical and moral than letting a guy with complete disregard for his fellow men destroy innocent lives. He still his his feet....

It's not a question of "harsh" or not. It's the fact that prison is a completely useless form of reformation in most cases. In fact, criminals often become worse in prison.

There are many alternatives to prison. Unfortunately, those who are able to legislate change don't seem to care. It seems to be "out of sight, out of mind" and nothing else.

Locking human beings in a brick room doesn't solve anything.

Maybe when we start seeing our neighbors as human beings rather than animals, things will change, and we'll start to look at serious methods of reforming.

Peace.

Who was the injured party, whose person or property was injured?
I see no mention of that.

Nope, I woulda thrown him in there for good after the fourth or fifth occurence. Sounds to me like they were actually very generous in allowing him to change.

the offender had plenty of time after DUI 4, 5, 6, even 7, or 8 to get sober. he is very lucky he hasn't killed someone before now. life in prison doesn't mean natural life in most cases this guy could be out in 10 to 15 with good time. I don't feel sorry for him at all. I hope he can figure out how to stay sober

With his history of drinking I doubt he'll live 10-15 years. We will be paying for his medical treatments as a result of his alcohol abuse.

As if those are the only two choices a governing body has at it's disposal...

Maybe we just start with his fingers and not the whole hand. That gives him 5 shots at DWI until he learns to be left handed.
