Truly disgusting behavior.
There has been a nasty racist undercurrent in Australia for a long, long time.
From calling Greeks/Italians "wogs" to the less than perfect treatment of the Aborigines to hostile comments and attitudes about Asians.
Even centuries later I suspect that some of it is still rooted in a "chip on shoulder" attitude based (perhaps) on the penal colony history that forms part of Australia's story.
In New Zealand the Maori population seems far more integral and far better represented; (probably due to the Treaty of Waitangi although I'm no history expert).
I saw more everyday instances of subtle racism in Australia than I did in New Zealand.
Of course racism is present everywhere in every country and probably always will be. *sigh*
ALL countries have their obnoxious and hate peddling racist element. Some are just better known for it than others.
The UK has some truly appalling racist elements - found amongst white, black, asian et al.
