When militant atheists gets in power, they tend to be very barbaric unfortunately. Under Soviet Unions state atheism, tens of millions of Christians were persecuted and murdered, and plenty of churches being destroyed.

Well, I have to say that we have been very liberal here in Canada for the better part of 145 years and so far the score is 0 murdered. But we aren't a utopia so I guess we don't count.

The lesson that we should take away from Communism is that an authoritarian theocracy enforcing atheism as the state "religion" is actually the worst theocracy of them all.
It's fine and well if you don't want to believe in God. Getting pushing, preachy and angry about it is where you head down the road towards disaster. "The world would be a better place if we just got rid of everyone who believes in God or religion" leads directly to what Mao and Stalin did.
