Actually, Catalonia is the most liberal region in Spain (it's home to Barcelona, the San Francisco of the Mediterranean, perhaps the most liberal city in Europe after Amsterdam and Stockholm), and the Spanish government is conservative.
Catalonia is also the wealthiest region in Spain, and wants to secede so it can keep more of its tax $$$. It's a "blue state" if you will. So seeing that Catolnia is left-leaning and the separatist movement is advocated by the socialists, and the Spanish PM is currently a rightie, what does this have to do with "the failures of socialism?"
Are you supporting the Catalonian left's desire to separate from the right-wing government?
I guess the question is if they would realistically be able to stand on their own if they do eventually separate from Spain. I admit I haven't researched this issue enough to say one way or another.
Same here. I would assume they would. If not right now I am sure new companies would flock there depending on the kind of government that was set up and if it was business friendly or not.

They are a different people with a different language and much more liberal than Spain, and there is enough of them to make it on their own. They have been talking about separation for decades, so it is about time.
