Probably the most powerful exec tool, as hinted by the OP, is the ability of an admin to reclassify guns as 'Class 3,' This was done by Sec'y of Treas. Lloyd Bentsen under Clinton to effectively ban several models of shotguns that were especially scary looking, but still just 12 guage shotguns, same as a Mossy 500 or Rem. 870. That ban remains in place to this day.
That was done back when the ATF was under Treasury, but now guess who reigns over ATF? It's now under the DOJ, none other than Eric "Brainwash" Holder. You really don't need any confidential sources to speculate that an Obama admin is quite capable of this. There is no shortage of on-the-record quotes from both Obama and Holder.
We saw how utterly irrational the left becomes after a mass shooting, when they tried to blame Sarah Palin for the AZ shooting. Just imagine another VA Tech or Aurora, CO happening in 2013. I could see Eric Holder moving to reclassify all semi-auto rifles as "destructive devices" the next day. Sure it would cost them in 2014, but Obama might calculate that having an R-controlled house provides a useful patsy.
It would vouchsafe his liberal legacy. Not only socialized health care, but gun control realized. A lib legacy to rival such lib luminaries as Wilson, FDR, and LBJ. Sure lib posters will pooh-pooh, but they won't address the specifics of my argument. They can't.
Most of my friends that are deer hunting today voted for Obama. They won`t be among the 200 million that revolt because they aren`t that incredibly stupid.

So when are the feds going to wander out to the old farm house and snatch that bolt action single shot 22? Or will being a marksman become illegal also? Fire power is one thing- one skilled person with one shot is probably just as dangerous.
