'After years of spending cuts and annual state budget deficits larger than the entire budgets of some states, this month the independent California Legislative Analyst’s Office projected a deficit for next year of $1.9 billion — down from $25 billion at one point — and said California might post a $1 billion surplus in 2014, even accounting for the tendency of these projections to vary markedly from year to year.
A reason for the change, in addition to a series of deep budget cuts in recent years, was voter approval of Proposition 30, promoted by Gov. Jerry Brown to raise taxes temporarily to avoid up to $6 billion in education cuts.'

A braod statement like "tax increases do work" holds little value.
Especially when it says "might post a $1 billion dollar surplus". How irresponsible of the NY Times to use such a word as might to push an agenda. More proof of how Journalism stinks now a days.

As well as "down from $25 billion at some point". What point would that be?

When were the temporary taxes introduced and when will they be removed or has it worked out so well that the taxes will continue?

There is no causation between tax increases and a better economy.

Correlation maybe-i.e. clinton was able to raise taxes with a booming economy, not causation

Your link is just another example of the press creating or slanting a story to support their social/political beliefs. Instead of reporting facts, they make-up facts of what "may" happen in the future. Just goes to show that traditional journalism among the old media is dead.

Yep, and then those who share those beliefs come to C-D to perpetuate the propaganda...

All proposals and estimates.

I went and read the budget off the CA site.
They will continue to borrow from the state special funds and delay repayment again.
They are counting on $73 billion in Fed money.
They are also estimating the high end revenue figures of their newly passed proposition.

Sure, all looks good on paper. Time will tell if it works though.

Because the sort of media you apparently prefer is so much better at predicting what will happen?
