typical of a shallow thinker. It's people with thought processes like yourself that doom humanity.
Them there's fight'n words! Do you drive? Do you heat your home in winter? God forbid, do you cool it in summer? Get off the hypocrisy trip. I out 'green' you coming and going. I live a zero impact lifestyle and I have the quad's to prove it. Do you take antibiotics? I don't. How many televisions? Smartphone? I have a computer, that's my one concession to the 21st Century. I have 5 bicycles that are not in landfills and do not contain tons of environmentally damaging materials. Get over yourself. You no doubt have laser lock on some niche aspect of 21st Century innovation that gets up your nose. What is it? Come on, spit it out, what's got you so worked up today?
Progress trap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anyone ever heard of it? This is the predicament that Progressives will get us into and already have in many cases. They steam ahead with wacky ideas that never get fully thought through only to find out after it's too late that there is a major problem and you can't undo it or turn back. This is also true for almost anyone or group that has influential power. Scientists also come to mind.
In the programming realm it is known as "the silver bullet syndrome." This new feature will solve all our problems, only to find out that implementing it creates whole new problems of its own. This classic problem is typically mitigated with good risk management.
Unfortunately, there is no risk management in Congress.
I had not heard of the term but it seems very useful. A good example would be that large animals (megafauna) were hunted to extinction after the arrival of man in places like NZ and North America. Quaternary extinction event - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Like the giant beaver of North America (no, it's not a joke); these were NA beavers weighing about 100-200 lbs that went extinct about the time humans arrived, although maybe or maybe not from hunting.
The De Toqueville tipping point may also be arguably an example of a progress trap, and we seem to be headed straight into it.
So is the AGW tipping point and we seem to be headed straight... ...
Interesting comparison, but numbers-wise no comparison. $16 trillion debt, headed to 20 by 2016, approx $200,000 per fed. income taxpayer in debt. Compared to like 1 degree of warming over the past 100 years.
I will say that I am agnostic on AGW; I just don't have sufficient background in atmospheric science to have much of an opinion (do you?). I'll just say that I would take it more seriously if it wasn't a crusade led by Al Gore, divinity school dropout. And if the solution to the problem invariably reached for was not increased taxation.
