Why should church goers only get the discount, they may have many loyal customers who are athiests and may be more frequent. They should put a coupon in the mail directly to those they want or to all, they would increase their business more that way, instead of just giving it to church goers. They did not think it out thouroughly before they decided on the discount. It is biased.
The owners of the restaurant agreed. Since the purpose of the discount had absolutely nothing to do with religion, its sole purpose was to attract more business during slow hours, the owners agreed to give a discount to anyone, "including publications from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, as long as they maintain the Sunday discount program."
Per the Civil Rights Act, businesses are not allowed to discriminate on the basis of religion, and a discount on the basis of bringing in a church bulletin certainly respects religious discrimination.
Perhaps you should lobby to get the law changed. But maybe you just think laws should be ignored when you don't like them.
So, you might (or might not) agree that discrimination on the basis of race is wrong. And that had to be forced onto some private businesses through government action. But discrimination on the basis of religious affiliation is somehow different and acceptable.
This is an easy one. Make a list of all the Churches in the Area that they want business from and have those Churches put a COUPON in their bulletin to be redeemed for the discount. The Restuarant can make a small donation to each Church to cover the printing costs.
Our church bulletin has several of these coupons from christian and other businesses from the area.
I'm going to give a 20% discount to hispanic people who come in my store, let's see the government try and stop me.
