At what time was that and please by all means try as best as you can to define capitalism or at least your version of it.
I think that the U.S. had a shot at becoming fully capitalist until Congress subsidized Edison's telegraph experiment. I think that that was the last time that there was any dilemma for Congress when redistributing wealth.
Until that time, the redistributions of incorporation and slavery precluded the country from being capitalist.

My only issue with that definition (though not a real definition since capitalism is used in the "definition") is that it's misleading if one were to never had read Rand since her description of just law resembles what many would consider regulation. For instance, if one were to dump mercury on their beach that was adjacent to yours and it affected your property, then that would be a violation of your property.

Sweden, France, the UK, etc., have been 'socialist' (according to Mrs. Palin's understanding of the term) for several decades, but are still no closer to going full-on Soviet. I wonder why.
